That just allows a human in the arty-tank to get satellite views of his shots missing (and gives him some idea where to aim.

And it's bloody difficult to get to work too without some decent co-ordination. I sat in that arty for ages, occasionally broadcasting 'Artillery ready', and not one person called it in.

I know what you mean mate, I was trying to send co-ordinates using Bino's but nothing seemed to be happening.

Maybe I should RTFM?

Apparently once you've spotted the target with your binos you need to switch to the radio to call it in.

I got an overhead/satellite view in the arty once but then lost it.

Change weapon as you would in a plane.

I really enjoyed this for about 2 mins, until it crashed, twice in a row, then I got fucked off and left it.

I'll try it again, but when Beef crashes for no reason at all, I don't wanna waste half an hour reconnecting and setting stuff up again.

This goes for every game. ever. (stops you losing settings if shit goes wrong)

Set controls and audio settings, exit game.

Set Graphics, exit game.

Play game.

As far as POE goes, i've had a few connection drops, but no crashes yet.

No it's more reloading the application and having to wait for it to load and do the whole "textures" thing which annoys the piss out of me.

It actually took me over half an hour in the end to find a BF2 server that didn't crash every 5 mins, and once I found one, I just stuck to it all night.

I really hope the 1.4 patch does something about it.

From what i've seen with the PoE2 server... Just look for a windows based server to avoid the crashing problems.

i've seen maybe 2 server crashes so far under windows, so it seems to me it's maybe a linux/bf2cc issue more than anything else

Firstly, you need a class to spot. IIRC, these are: sniper, assault and Spec Ops.

Any of these classes can equip the binos and left click (in bino view) to set a point for arty. The spotter should then see a VERY CLEAR message, in bino view, stating that your point is set, and you have ten seconds to radio it in.

The spotter should then whip out the radio and the report should be sent automatically (though I usually left-click just to be sure). This will set a marker (the familiar vanilla Beef arty marker) on the overhead map.

The arty chap should then be able to see said marker in the overhead map (note: he won't receive any audible or visual report that you have set a marker, he needs to be looking at the map). Arty chap now needs to switch to Satellite View by using his normal 'switch weapon' function (for me, it's mouse wheel), when in this view he can fire a round and watch where it falls. If it's not in the right place he should switch back to first person mode, adjust the angle/direction of his shot, switch back to sat view and try again.

Repeat as necessary.

In addition, this arty marker will disappear after a while (I don't know how long).

It's worthy of note that you can only have one arty point set at a given time. Whether this is particular to each arty piece, or on a map as a whole, I don't know. Suffice to say that, if you don't see your arty marker on the map, the arty gunner can't see it either.

The manual says 60 seconds.

Basically, it's a pain in the arse.

Yup, it's great :)

Makes arty a real pain, but still hugely effective once you've got it down.
