I am getting tired of this game very quickly. Whilst the open endedness of the game is appealing it can be very frustrating. I do not require massive direction in my games and the wander from quest hub to quest hub can be frustrating in itself but the complete and utter lack of direction makes me want to lay down on a bed of nails and bench press rick waller.
For a day or so I had been trying to get a TIE fighter. A simple demand as a little bit of research showed that the ship was a Tier 1 spaceship (not that I know what that means but it sounds pretty low down the chain to me) So off I trotted to some guy who was the imperial pilot trainer. After a brief dialogue I was sent off to complete a few missions, fly here kill that, escort this freighter that insists on flying through swarms of pirates... the usual stuff. I soon found myself to be the proud owner of a TIE fighter pilots suit! Result! and with a promise of a helmet after a few more missions! I could hardly contain my excitement when I was presented with my very own TIE fighter pilots helmet! only to find that the utter cunts who designed this game were total fucking Star Wars nerds who stuck so close to the lore they may have well been sucking Lucas' dick. As a result I cannot wear my new headpiece because I am a fucking alien. Well fuck you nerds. I went off in a huff and played some Anarchy Online.

I came back a bit later on when my eyes had finished bleeding out all over the AO UI. OK, so I cannot use that sweet looking helmet, but I can at least get a TIE for myself right? After some negotiations with the same cupcake who gave me the pointless hat I managed to secure a promise of TIE training after another mission...pirates dead yadda yadda...woohoo! Im TIE fighter trained! get some! finally, I can fly around space making cool screeching sounds and terrorising wookies. What? I only receive training not an actual TIE fighter? Oh, well, where do I get one? Upon this point the NPC was not forthcoming, missile training? no problem? droid training? certainly? another mission maybe? BUT NO FUCKING TIE FIGHTER! I was shocked and stunned. Not only would I not get a TIE for my hard work, I wasn't even being given any indication on where I would be able to purchase one. I searched the player auctions, nothing, I wandered about most of tatooine looking for a vendor, none, I even asked one of those ROLEPLAYER HELPER cunts - no reply. I finally gave up. I am TIE less, with a helmet I cannot repair on a planet populated by ROLEPLAYER HELPER fuckwits who despise anything that is not the lore.

Star Wars: Galaxies can go fuck itself.

 So you're not a fan then?

I'm ultimately of a similar opinion. It's just not easy to get into.

Everything in SWG is made by players so you either need to check the bazaar terminals, or go to a player city and see if anybody has one for sale there.

This means I can use all the items that give me nice bonuses, but make it look like I'm wearing my pink shirt and trousers, and Crazy Frog flying helmet. This should be done in every MMONG. Even Eve.
ty...now I can put my pink bustier back on ;)

Been playing with free trials. FFXI I just can't play...too Japanese or something. Trying Star Wars Galaxies atm. Been a bit fun...athough, quite amazed from all the lag on simple fights/looting. Not unplayable but weird not seeing my lightning horse effects and then the bodies plop on the ground.

After this, think i'm gonna do 14days of Matrix Online...haven't played that since beta.

Let us know how you get on. Nice to hear how the old games have changed.

well..2 days/20hours in SWG LvL 14 and clueless. I think I'm at the point whereas I need to choose Rebel, Empire or Neutral. Been doing a few Rebel mishs which were fun but, don't think I can deal with the missing animation/effects while fighting.

Tried to find newbie guides on SWG and Alahkhazam but they're 2 yrs old and it seems much has changed since then and they suck also.

Been awhile since I've played this much....time's just flying by...maybe I shouldn't try to find something I like...

Yeah, that sounds a lot like my experiences.

woot...I found direction in SWG !!!11! At lvl 14 I rec'd a Focus Crystal (Jedi, might be different for others) and when you double-click on it...gives a mission to go work on Jedi powers! yea me :)

Also, I think the POI's might be stuff I should go to...afterall, they are of "interest" :ninja:

hmm...POI's are all too "big" for me...doing Focus Crystal quests though...

Focus Crystal Jedi mission was short lived and left me with no further clues.

Joined my first group...peeps level 50ish? Was some sort of PL'ing going on but not for me...as I seemed to be just a follower. Turns out the true PL'ing occurs just by finishing mishs...doesn't matter who kills what as long as you damage the mob you get some exp also(100-150). Then travel back and get mission bonus(5000). I didn't have that mish so no bonus for me.

Big guys left so me and a +3 did a couple of my mishs. More fun with 2 cuz then you start laying the smackdown. He left, found another guy in my next mish and grouped him. We had same mishs so worked perfectly for about 3hours and 3 more lvls.

Pro's: Its Star Wars! Its new to me still. Its huge, still on first planet.

Con's: Missing animation/effects during combat. Very few people. Have no idea what server they thru me on. No real direction. No guides worth reading.

From what I've heard, it used to be really good then they changed everything but, the changes don't seem complete to me.

At this point, going to stop worring about direction and just kill things and level up. :ahoy:

Finally found something good:

http://swg.wikia.com/wiki/Legacy_Quest

Since the quest chain tends to get broken...this got me back to where I needed to be and now I'm following it quite easily.

Quest xp is flowing and up to 22. Need to get to 30 so I can play with a light sabre :ahoy:

Other than that...game over when Trial is done...unless I could find people and enjoy grouping...but they all seem to be hidden...I've seen a few here and there and maybe 10 max in a gathering place. Quite empty for a MMO...

stupid free trial...maxxed at lvl 25 and light sabre is at 30 :x

9 days left...

turns out they had a free transfer not to long ago and only 3 servers are highly populated...of course, I took the "suggested" server and saw about 30 people in my 5 day/60 hour marathon...

its like you're in a single player game and a few people hacked into your game and killsteal your mobs...

I enjoyed the "Star Wars" setting and became addicted to the leveling but I just feel like they never completed the coding.

I want my Light Sabre! :shakefist:

Hmm, I would have let players get just a taste of laser sword goodness then stopped them, just because I think that would lure more people in. Mind you I seem to like light sabres more than a lot of people. Mostly people who played SWG back in the day mind.

The problem with a Star Wars mmong is the Jedi and the Sith.

In an environment where each individuals actions arn't meant to push massive changes (unless it's a lot of people), you can't have individual player characters which live up to the power they should have.

Even the first galaxies tried to make it rare, you had to master a specific combination of skill classes which was randomized per character, and THEN you were just at the crusp of your horse training. So at least for the very powerful characters there was a balance of people who havn't, and never would reach that stage, but even so, it was an end game people strived for.

And a Jedi then would whip arse, it had to really because of the sheer amount of grinding you had to put in on average, led to them being rather overpowered verses normal players, but it's a catch 22, if they were useless people wouldn't bother trying to reach the goal after a while.

Almost was addicted enough to pay for SWG...but then I read this review on Amazon...and that was just the first one!

Reminds me of when SOE took over Everquest...nothing was getting fixed but the expansions were coming out...$$$

addiction gone :ahoy:

City of Heroes/Villians is quite the opposite...fix everything, updates for free...if only they had the mega content all the other MMO's have...
