How to install (console version)

Download This

Put FAH502-Console.exe into a folder on your computer (i suggest C:\fold)

Run FAH502-Console.exe - It'll popup a dos (console) window that asks questions

Put a name similar to your 5punk one in as your username
Team number: 51199
Say yes to install as a service

From here on, you can just hit enter, as the defaults will be best for most people.

It'll do stuff, then you'll have an annoying window open on your computer.

The easiest way to get stuff to work is rebooting

Or you can close the folding console window, then go Control panel > Administrative Tools > Services > and look for the one called FAH@C:+Fold+FAH504-Console.exe (or similar) select it, then hit start.

I added it to a couple of machines today,
if you fuck up the settings, type

Code: Select all

FAH504-Console.exe -config
to go through them again
(I'm using the beta console-only one)
Wait for the screen to get to the 0 of 500000 bit, kill the console, then start the service. It shows as FahCore_7a.exe in Processes.

That's mighty strange. I've been running it for 2 1/2 days, and I'm not showing up in the group =/

Probably because you havent completed a work unit yet, it may take several days depending on the power of your PC.

I gave it a go, the firewall laughed at me, I then went through a really frustrating process of trying to remove the console version, and I now have something similar to the "beef rage" :x

:?

You're using windows firewall right? Shouldn't need any special stuff, it worked fine for me.

Also removing the console version = deleting the file. Did you mean removing the service? This took me a little while to work out when I accidently setup 2 services. "sc" command in DOS FTW!

I'll contribute to this if I remember when I get home. What does it do again? Cure AIDS or something?

Nope I'm at work, and it can't run through our hardware firewall.

Never knew about that SC command though, very handy :likesitall:

I have just discovered an interesting quirk. I have installed the folding thing as a service, and then went to do a little sweeping of the floor. The torrent, which had a pretty healthy 200 odd seeds and only 100odd peers, refused to go above 10kB/s. On a whim, I stopped the service, and it shot up to 75kB/s. Back on, 5kB/s. Off, 100kB/s.

So, gawd knows why, but folding borks sweeping, at least on my machine. Just thought you lot might like to know.

:above: also.

Im using Azureus. Its definately the Folding causing it, though its probably Folding + Some Other Wierd Shit, and I dont know what the wierd shit is. But ive played around with turning it on and off a few times, and theres just too clear a correlation for it to be unrelated. Not a major problem, i'll just turn it off when i want to floor sweep.
