Roman on misanthropy - I'm the same, except if someone doesn't deserve politeness and respect, gauged by how I feel they are as a human, or how they are with me, they definitely won't get it.

randomgazz on religion - I used to believe people should be allowed to find solace in whatever they need to. However as time goes by, religion becomes radicalised and as I grow weary of this world, I feel the only thing that could've saved us would've been total abolition of religion about 2000 years ago. Opiate of the people anyone? *passes pipe*

Humans are a dying race on a dying planet and are essentially screwed. Our brains and bodies have been wasted, our potential destroyed by our arrogance. We're in a transitional period, like childbirth. We've just gone into labour and unfortunately there's a lot of pain, suffering and blood to come...

Also, what's always baffled me is that there's more evidence of extraterrestrial life than there is of Jesus, yet it's mocked and dismissed by the majority.

I'm going to have to steal that one.

My primary school was a church of England one, so we had to make a yearly pilgrimage to the local church for the harvest festival and offer the lord the ripe harvest of tinned tomatoes and baked beans. While I actually respect this for the good it must of done, making my Hindu friend say the wrong prayers once a week for 5 years must of played havoc with his mind.

If you were to tell people that you're hearing a voice in your head and following the commands of it, you'd be sent for phycological evaluation with a view to possibly be sectioned, however when you say that it's God, you're apparently sane.

I'm pretty sure the existence of Jesus has been pretty well established. The question is more if he was actually the divine son of god or just another human.

Which of course is fairly impossible to determine given the spiritual nature of it.

I think he did exist, and was a popular Rabbi who had ideas of reconnecting people to thier God that his superiors didn't like. After that, it's a 2000 year game of chinese whispers.

Then again, I'm a mad hippy Pagan, and only have an A-Level in christian theology to back me up...

I dislike blinkered views of any kind, extremist or not. You've probably all seen my diatribes and know I feel that everyone should be able to promote their views. Yes this would undoubtedly lead to more tension, but doesn't denying this right cause tension anyway?

The Dutch politician who was turned away today should have been allowed to speak. And at the same conference a moderate Muslim should have spoken too, offering rebuttal. The Dutch guys views are as extreme as any hard line Muslims, he just uses politics as his tool of attack. We turn him round as he lands in this country but we took months to do anything about Abu Hamza despite his obvious hostility toward the state and any other belief systems. The government needs to stick to its own rules if any headway is to be made in terms of integrated co-existence between religious and ethnic groups.

Tandino - I don't think religion has become more radicalised, I see it instead as it's being reported in a more inflammatory manner. We don't see front page headlines on church hall roof fundraisers or bake sales for prayer mats because it's not newsworthy to the fools who decide what goes in the papers or on the news.

Throughout history religion has offered solace to billions, as well as claimed the lives of billions. I don't feel it's done more harm than good and I feel any alternate universe where religion did not exist would still be fractious and argumentative, it's human nature.

Unfortunately it's also very human to be greedy and deceitful, and religion is used by many as nothing more than a tool to further their aims.
