In the harsh world of reality, Caterhams and their ilk take about 3 months to build properly, so as to not fall apart again straight away.
I've mended fast builds before that have taken 'just a week' to build and another 6-8 weeks of strip and rebuild to rectify.

My mate bought his complete (he is a City boy) £32,000, way too much money for a kit car but he wanted it for track days so he opted for the pro build. Another friend is building an MK with a Fireblade engine - that should be interesting.

His girlfriend seems to think 'ohhh, this is my new car, I can't wait to drive it!'. He hasn't yet told her that at 21 (he is 34, lucky bugger) she has absolutely no chance with regard to the insurance. I'll get the popcorn out and take a front row seat when he tells her

aside from the 34-banging-a-21-year-old bit, I'm still jealous of the car.

small and light is the way to go, even if an M3 evo is a rapid motor, it's heavy and still a bimmer.

Caterham+good engine+track day = BIGGEST FUN EVAH!

I know a guy who used to work for BMW and got silly discounts for leasing their cars; he had an M3 convertable for a while, fantastic car, great for summer cruising, but my day in the Caterham R500 was fucking awesome. The acceleration was fantastic, but the 50-70 was the killer, dodging through M25 traffic like a go-cart with your arse 2" from the floor takes some beating
