I only knew about Zavvi because they were selling DS Lites cheaper than anyone else last Christmas. It was quite a while before I found out they'd spawned from Virgin Megastores. Some advertising would probably have helped, but I think the nail that sealed their coffin was that Woolworths owned their supplier so when they went under Zavvi's stock was cut off.

You mean lack of advertising?
Zavvi were Virgin Megastores, but the management at the time bought out the company from Virgin. That was the year before last iirc.
Don't think they were really in a good financial position in the first place, and what with Woolies' distribution arm being their main supplier, it's shafted them royally.
Edit: Doggers beat me by 2 minutes.

I knew who Zavvi were but only because I walked about Coventry town most days when at Uni with a couple of hours to spend. However I never actually saw the split, just one day walked passed and saw the change.
I actually just thought it was a brand-name change because nothing inside had changed, same offers, same stupid expensive prices for most things and silly monies for others.

As far as I know, Virgin bought out Zavvi who was an online ratailer. When Woolworths went down, EU-UK or whatever they were called, part of the Woolworths group went into administration. They were Zavvi's distributor, and Zavvi are still in contract with them, so the only stock they get in is some new releases, so when there stock is gone, they will dissappear. I know from mid-december they were estimating mid '09. Or something along those lines... One of my mates who worked in there stock room was made reduntant because of it.
Anyway, will play some TEEF's at some point, although there a bit achey ATM.
Might aquire the Unreal pack from Steam aswell.
