For the record I like both platforms equally, each has their merits and flaws.

I wasn't really trying to be negative about consoles, just that console gamers seem to have lower expectations and so games that would be considered shit by PC standards get great reviews on consoles. I agree that both platforms have their merits and do some things better than the other, it's just that I prefer the type of game that does well on the PC. I've owned a few consoles and they've always just sat collecting dust.

I concur with Pants with regards to the reviews:
And I'll even throw in examples:
Halo 1 and 2, great (well, the first one) on consoles, not so on PC's.
Gears of War
Oblivion (while good on pc imo, all the console reviews raved about it).
etc...

I'm sure it's something to do with the saturation of genres on each platform. For example; a good FPS really stands out on consoles as there's not as many as on PCs and a good platformer or driving game stands out on the PC.

That
Which is one of the main reasons Goldeneye is considered to be such an awesome FPS.

That sounds likely actually. Was Psychonaughts ever released on console? That's the only platformer I can think of recently that was well received on the PC.

It was going to be xbox exclusive, but xbox owners didn't like it much, so it became the cult game we know today.

well, the people that i knew that owned an xbox were only interested in race and action games, stuff like that. i think that represents a large part of the console gamers.

I'm not reading any reviews. I intend to play the game 'blind' and decide for myself whether I like it.
Oddly enough the first time I played Oblivion I got bored very quickly. When I went back to give it a proper go I rather enjoyed it and almost completed it, but I got distracted by a Jehovah witness and never finished it.

I loved Oblivion, even though I was forced to use WASD. I played 88 hours of it and still felt I'd blasted through it and missed most of the high-level content. Coming back after having grabbed the expansions though, it doesn't seem to hold the same charm and I seemed to keep making the same stupid decisions that caused me to think I'd munchkinned it the first time.
I'm terrible at replaying games and trying something different - I always seem to fixate on what I did the first time and just copy it. Utterly failed at replaying KoTOR and Jade Empire as evil, always end up as an Archer/Warrior in Dungeon Siege/Diablo/Titan Quest, every RTS ever: sit back until the superpower is available, 4-4-2/3-4-3 attacking in football manager games, pistol-sniping in FPS games, and my three highest characters in WoW are Warlock Demonologists with Tailoring and Enchanting.

...
It's actually not too bad, but the controls are horrible for me (I can't use WASD due to it fucking my shoulder up) and it seems what you can rebind is very limited.
It's very, very, very brown.
And the similarities to Oblivion are very painful in one spot already.

FJ and Berk are weird mutants who shun the WASD method of excellence.
