hello Lyekka, glad to see you made the transition to the more relaxed side of the tracks.
Pop your jumper down someplace and we can use it as a goalpost.
welcome to the other place I call home, when I'm not at home.

Hello sah! I'm afraid I can no longer take you seriously. You appear to have a ferret on your face.
Has anyone here thought about giving Planetside a whirl? I absolutely loved it when I was in an outfit with lots of other people, but it's a bit dull solo. It's probably the best suited game for casual antics and amusing anecdotes that I've ever played... and I've played a lot of things
I believe there might be some free trials going still, so if enough people are interested, we can give it a go. Whaddya say?

I use to play, but because of how rubbish my computer was at the time, anything larger than a medium sized engagement caused my frame rate to drop into the seconds per frame region. That, and I got bored with rubbish GMs who never even gave you a 'sorry, you did something silly so it's not our fault' kinda responce (as oppose to the eve ones who still make you cry, but at least you hear back).
Given that I heard you can now play it for free though, and with my computer being much better I'd be up for a giggle every once in a while.

I'll give it a crack, after I've installed UT onto my new game box, and thrown some ram at it

That's the thing with planetside. It does need alot of RAM to run and load at an acceptable speed.

Meh, that should be ok. I've only got a gig in mine but I doubt it's run at the nice frame rates I get on stuff like UT2K4, Q4 and CS:S

Hello
Can I get a free trial on planetside yet? I looked into it months ago but not willing to pay for such an old game if I don't get a chance to try it first.
Nevermind, that was a stupid question

Loes!
I played it for a few years on Vanu/Werner and had a laugh. A great game for having a blat for a few hours.

PS is very different from WoW. With PS levels are almost incidental; you can use exactly the same weapons that the higher level (or 'Battle Rank' in Planetside parlance) guys can, they [the higher BR guys] just have a greater choice of weapons and kits that they can use without re-spec'ing.
This pretty much means that a players skill is almost as important as their BR. I played for a long time with one of the top Euro players (Trelawney, for the ex-PS'ers) who, almost exclusively, used basic weapons and was a joy to behold.
It all makes for a great 'drop in and play' game. With good squad tactics you can have a great laugh. We used to eschew the big (laggy) battles, favouring instead the small unit stuff, such as destroying enemy resourses and generally making a nuisance of ourselves behind the lines.
Yes, Sony are twunts, and yes, some players take it too seriously, but all in all PS is one of my most fondly remembered online experiences.
