If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

Fair enough. Plus I wanted some Crossfire malarky, so that'll drop too I'd imagine.

ATI are just too pricey right now, nvidia is the cheaper option by a long way.

Take it from an ATI fanboy, this is the hard truth. The price on 7900GT's are so much cheaper than its ATI counterparts there's no contest. Also, SLI is still a better implementation than Crossfire. They should have it figured out with the next card, but that doesn't help now.

Hello again chaps.

Well AM2 is out, and the other day my machine overheated & shut itself down half way through halflife2:ep1. I have decided to bring my planB forward, and ive ordered some new kit. I have figured that for the amount of time i need a portable PC is less than the time i want a silent or powerful one.

Yesterday i ordered:

1 ASUS M2N32-SLi Deluxe NF590
2 1GB Corsair XMS2, DDR2 PC6400 (800)
1 AMD AM2 Athlon 64 4200+ Windsor Core
2 256MB EVGA 7900GT CO,Mem 1500 MHz
2 150 Gb Western Digital WD1500ADFD Raptor
1 500 Gb Seagate ST3500641AS Barracuda
2 NEC ND-4570A-GNB Black 16x16 DVD±RW

My plan is to get a silent cooler for the cpu when they are more avaliable for AM2, and to upgrade the CPU when the FX-62 becomes more reasonable.
More pressingly, i need a case to stick it all in. I am being drawn towards the antec P180. Mainly for its acoustic properties and clean looks. However im slighty worried about some of its more flimsy design.
Does anyone know of any alternatives that i should consider? (I already have a suitable PSU) Lots of chunk aluminum would be nice, but not too big.

I've always rather fancied the Lian-li cases, but have always been a bit too expensive for my tastes, but from the look of that setup, you've got cash to burn! So try here: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/ ... s_225.html

Hmm yeah it some look good.
This one seems nice: Lian-Li PC6070

Its sound-dampening but seems pretty solidly and simpley built unlike the P180.

I might have to change the dvdr drives for silver ones...

or of course, you can mod the standard bezels and glue them on to the front of the drive trays. :)

The P180 is pretty nice - nothing flimsy about it. I'd happily get one (but don't get me started on Antec PSUs, which are a pile of arse).

You could also take a look at Silverstone. I rather like the look of their TJ-07 myself. Berk has a Silverstone, so he's in a better position to comment on quality etc. than me.

The 07 looks pretty nice, mine (the 01) is a bunch of arse really, wouldn't buy one again.

I'll give it a grudging 5/10, but I'm not sure whether to add or subtract 1000 for living close to Hemel Hempstead. I'm thinking the latter.
