to be honest ATI's drivers have been solid as a rock for at least 2 years now. The Catalyst 8.7 beta drivers are floating around but I'm still running 8.5 because I'm lazy.

i'm pretty sure it's broken now, 3dmark fails too. RMA sent, now the long wait for the new one to arrive.

In the very unlikely category are it might be the way you've chained stuff with psu rails, or that the mobo is a bit jiggered on the pci-e slot.

The not really possible category contains, you haven't seated the gpu/ram properly.

The anything else I can think of category has - it could just be one of those weird things that sometimes gets fixed if you take everything out the mobo then put it back in again.

The stuff pete said is all maybe possibly possible. maybe. ish. perhaps.

This is getting ridiculous.
New card arrived today, i put it back in the pc, run crysis to see if everything runs nicely this time, everything seems to be going allright until i'm about half an hour in the game, and voila; lines are back.

Also, don't know if it has any relevance, but somehow i can't get my internet working again, even though i didn't change anything since last time...

try to get screenshots or photos of the lines?

What's the PSU in your machine?

I'm thinking/hoping it's quite unlikely you'd get 2 bad cards in a row, so possibly something else causing it.

they did verify that my card was, indeed, kaput, so maybe there is something breaking my cards? Seems unlikely but you never know.

There was a rumour recently that certain nvidia drivers were "destroying" cards - as in causing irrepairable damage somehow. It was unfounded, though, and many people said it wasn't possible. Besides, you're using an ATi card, so that's irrelevant.

Anyway, all I can think of are problems with the PSU failing to correctly power the card, problems with the motherboard failing to register or interact with the card, or problems with RAM because RAM can be a cupcake sometimes and cause all kinds of shit to happen.

It's fucking annoying when you assemble a computer and there's something SOMEWHERE that's incompatible. You've just got to find what it is.

The things likely to kill a graphics card are;

Heat
Bad power (too much, not enough, no stable power)
Evil mobo feeding too much power.


Have you tried (no idea if it'll work) sticking the GPU in the lower PCI-E slot on your mobo?

In my limited experience, i'd say that was overheating.

Take the side off your case and aim a desk fan into it, if it doesn't assplode, then it's a good betting it was heat.

sounds like it is probably a heat issue from talking with Mr.J on xfire.

Right, fat pc guy said he tried an nvidia card in my machine, and ran it for two days straight, without problems. sounds to me like my mobo really fucking hates ATI. temporary solution= get an nvidia card.
Now, i'm a retard when it comes to choosing the right card, so what card would you recommend?

well, if this card breaks, it's clear that fat pc guy didn't do his job properly, and i'll have to send the whole mobo. The dutch store has a pretty good service though, so it shouldn't be a problem to get a new one.
