You do not want me to start ranting about how bad Vice City Stories is. It might well be a wonderfully vast and exciting game but I never found out.buzzmong wrote:What are you chortling about sir?

I think that Liberty City and Vice City stories should be overlooked cause they were just scaled down versions of GTA 3 and VC for the PSP (and then sold shamelessly on the PS2). I didn't think LCS was that bad but I didn't play it much. What was wrong with VCS?
However, I do think that San Andreas was pretty shitty.

Oh yes and to keep this topic on track, I just experienced my first crash after Roman beat me at pool
(Game crash, not drive crash. I am crashing cars quite a bit though thanks to the new driving system).
Oh, and how do you summon a taxi? I've heard it's the L1 button but It doesn't seem to work for me, do I have to complete a certain mission before I can use taxi's?
And what about the taxi/cop/ambulance/fire-fighter sub-missions?

Possibly mish based, but if you become best of buds with roman he will send you a taxi to use for a free rideTezzRexx wrote: Oh, and how do you summon a taxi? I've heard it's the L1 button but It doesn't seem to work for me, do I have to complete a certain mission before I can use taxi's?

I'm not too far in and the taxi thing and the police things work, yet to try the rest.

There's a mission that tells you to whistle for a cab and when it came near...
er, where was I?
I haven't tried any of the sub-missions but I hear that the paramedic and firefighter ones are gone (hurrah! I liked every OTHER sub-mission except those two). I have been using the hose on fire engines to blast unsuspecting pedestrians (and players in multiplayer when it works) about for huge lols
My gta froze after I did two missions without saving, god damn it.
Luckily the second mission was just "go to a strip club", which I promptly got kicked out of after climbing on the table with the girls

I'd actually forgotten all about multiplayer until now D: Guess its better to wait with poplular titles like this till A. Novelty has worn off for alot of people and B. Schools in the states are in session.
Still single player is fucking brilliant. At the same time I feel quite sad for getting excited about things in game that I wouldnt care about in reality.
"Wow I just knocked over this table I thought it would be a solid fixture" and "Omg things mark where you hit them" spring to mind.
I just love how it seems like alot of effort went into making every feature.

Yep, this is what I was expecting to happen. I actually formulated a review while sat on the toilet this morning without even playing it, along the lines of "It's just the same as the the other GTA games, with a bit better graphics and a couple of extra game modes." I was wondering if anyone would have ever spotted that I hadn't played it.cashy wrote:I don't get what people were expecting from a gta game other than a gta game, but it seems most people were expecting Jesus Theft Auto or something.
Still, good reviews so far. I'll probably get in on PC unless they really fuck up.

I haven't bothered with the story missions, as I don't particularly like being told what to do and they aren't the main reason I bought the game.
I got in last night, plonked the beer in the freezer to chill and sat down for a quick go of free-roam "multi"player in party mode - so it was actually just me.
Three hours later I remembered the now-nearly-frozen beer.
This is the bit I used to love about the game - it's basically like playing with some of the cheats on. You start in an area with most of the guns, the best motorbikes, cars, boats and helicopters and there are no police.
Sure it may become boring eventually, but that didn't stop me spend at least 20 minutes each: sniping people from the statue of liberty, doing wheelies and endos on the freeway, busting out a rocket launcher in Burger King, chasing golfers around with a shotgun, trying to drive a moped up some steps and through a street cafe, flying a helicopter low-level down Broadway and skidding 270° at every single intersection in the Ferrari, accidentally sounding the horn almost constantly as I was being too vigorous with the controls.
The aiming is improved, but still nothing compared to what a PC version should deliver - so that usually means getting stuck on missions with lots of gunplay. Jury is still out on the dodge and cover - part of me wants to complain that they ripped off a feature from an inferior game, but practically it's quite useful to not stand around geting shot at all the time - it's just the buttons are a bit fiddly.

Tried my first multiplayer match today after beating the main story.
Fucking brilliant. Only tried free mode but that was hillarious. A load of british guys driving around the airport firing rockets at eachother until some smartarse gets to tha choppah and it turns into the end of Red Dawn.
I couldnt figure out how to talk though. Is the mic always on unless muted or is there a button you have to press?
