By the way, don't suppose any of you bummers have any free trials knocking about?

Edit: I appear to have a 10 day Guest Pass Key if anyone wants it.

You can easily get a trial account from the website, without any credit card details.

I have a disturbing secret. I have been secretly playing wankcraft again, I know - it is shameful.
I am on EU servers (lightbringer) level 59 Elf Priest and a 54 Druid
Not bothered what side we chose or what server we go onto.

Rough established 5punkers list:

Baliame: Bloodscalp, Horde, PvP, Medium
Friznit: Emerald Dream, Horde, PvE, Medium
KV: Twisting Nether, Horde, PvP, Medium
Anery: Lightbringer, Alliance, PvE, Medium
S2B: Neptulon, Horde, PvP, Full
JG: Kharazan, Horde, PvP, Medium
FJ: Sylvanas, Alliance, PvP, Full

The first three have L70s, who would be able to help/boost people more effectively if they're willing, so unless there's anyone else I've missed I guess we should vote on it.

It'd be nice to try a bit of Horde from my viewpoint, as it's something I've never really done, plus I'm happy to carry on with my existing chars and join in for 5punky outings as and when.

Have I got this right about PvP/E? On a PvE server you can still PvP, but you have to flag yourself for it (or attack someone). On a PvP server you can be attacked freely by anyone anywhere.

If that's the case I'd rather go PvE, as I don't really fancy getting ganked by lvl70s everywhere I go.

Pretty much, you can't attack any player of the other faction on a PvE server unless they're flagged for PvP - this is set by choice, or by them attacking an NPC, or defending themselves against one. Some quests practically require them to do this, so little PvP farm areas occur.

There's an "honour" system whereby killing the same person over and over gives you no further honour, as does ganking someone much lower level than you - on PvP servers people seem to take more notice of this, whereas on PvE servers people generally get rather excited when they see a possible PvP victim and kill you regardless. That said, it's far more likely you'll be ganked a lot on a PvP server - although of course you can respond in kind, particulary when you have high-level chums who can pop up and help you out.

The one thing that turned me away from PvP servers was the phrase "horde/alliance aren't letting each other do quests at the moment on xxx server". This is generally not a major problem at lower levels because of the geography but can be a pain in Outlands (Burning Crusade addon only) where you're all in the same place. Besides, there's plenty of PvP to be had if you need a fix in the cross-server battlegrounds and arenas. And PvP is generally a bit shit IMO.

Then again, PvP servers seem to be very popular, so there must be something good about them.

I've heard that the PvP is a bit shit. Persoanlly I wouldn't be actively seeking it, but I like the idea of a bunch of 5punkers trashing someone's gank. We seem to play pretty well at other games, but we never PvP outside Eve. Still, with the option available on either server type I don't mind either way.

Well, having a L70 would be nice but would be a bit unfair on those who have L70's (or getting there) on other servers. I think a clean break to a new server we have not been on would be good.
Alliance or horde? I have played mostly Alliance so personally Horde would be good for a try, although Alliance tend to be easier to wind up
I will probably roll a priest if we are going to be working together (is a pain in the arse trying to level a holy priest on yer tod) anyone else decided what flavour they want to play?

I vote PvE (but not massively fussed), and SNPG for DP.

I'm also more inclined to PvE, but like Berk, wouldn't be massively bothered either way. Shall we take a server Poll, might speed this up a bit?

I think the idea was more that there'd be a high level player on hand to help out boosting instances etc.

So we've decided on PvE, Horde I think.

Should we settle on a particular race or two races that start in the same area, I don't know what the layout is with the horde starting points. Dwarves and gnomes start in the same area for alliance, is there an equivalent on horde? If there is would that be a good option?

Orcs and Trolls start in the same area, I believe. Taurens are a fairly short walk away too. Undead are not *that* far a walk from the Orc/troll area, either.

Im probably going to be a blood elf, but I fully accept the fact that the first thing I will be doing is trecking half way around the world.

I was planning on going Taurean Shaman, and if we're going Horde PvE then Emerald Dream with Friz looks like the best option. We'll never be able to get onto one server to keep all 5punkers happy because of the amount of people who have characters on others, but at least if we all have a character together on one server then we have the option. We might as well choose Friz's so that we have him there as a bit of moral support and he can come and bum us if he likes, since he wouldn't be there at all otherwise.

So, Emerald Dream, Horde? Anyone got any arguments against that?

Nope.

I might create a char today in preparation. Anyone got a map of the starting locations of horde races?

Never mind, here's the cities: http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/basic ... #orgrimmar
These are not the actually starting locations, I don't think, but they must be nearby. You can use this and http://mapwow.com/ if you need to.

Yeah, you start in some shitty starting zone with some piss easy quests, works as a tutorial, basically. After that you go into a very low level area, usually this is right next to the big city for that race.

Might be worth pointing out that that map makes it look like the undead starting area is chuffing miles away: it is, but theres a zepplin that flies directly from the undead city to the orc city.
