Gunslinger42 wrote:The idea that once you hit 70, thats it, game completed has always stuck in my mind and is another thing that I think I wouldn't like about World of Warcraft. Yeah, there might be special stuff to do when you hit level 70, but to me it just seems... pointless. More pointless than normal gaming even. I just have the impression that once you reach 70, the only thing left is the actual gameplay itself (and the actual gameplay of MMOs rarely ever interests me) - theres not really any goals to achieve or rewards to get. I mean there may be little things here and there, but nothing worthwhile. Like CoH, I haven't been on my level 50 for weeks now, I've just been arsing around on a new character. Theres still a load of stuff to get for my level 50, but ultimately I don't see the point, it's not going to give me a new power that helps me blast the next, harder set of baddies because there are non.

Which is one of the things I like about EVE, you'd have to spend hundreds of years to get to the point where you've basically done everything and got everything.

And I'm fully aware my impression of CoH/World of Warcraft once you've "won" are probably a bit off, and there may even be a few "BUT YOU CAN X AND Y" responses waiting for me and while, yeah thats true, usually X and Y aren't ... I don't know, significant enough compared to getting to that next major level milestone and getting the next big power or ship or something, which is what I like the most about MMOs
The point is that the gameplay of World of Warcraft unlike, say, 95% of the MMOs is the stuff you do after you've hit 70. What could prove this fact better that I have a 70 char since last February and since that I've played 1200+ hours with it (despite xfire stating otherwise). You can't say there is NOTHING there to do. It's about raiding and PvP. Raiding means you have to acquire consumables (~2 hour every week), read strategies (10 minutes) and spend time in big fucking places with 24 other people shouting at you on vent if you don't do your job properly (read: doing raid instanced), and while it's not PvP interaction, it's quite challenging. PvP is well.. PvP, battlegrounds, arenas, it's rather fun.

My point is that unless you're a jobless, gfless loser (like all of Nihilum), you probably won't reach the "Game Over" point any soon.

Joose wrote:Surely with most games, getting from the beginning to the end in a fun manner is kinda the point. Just becuase its an MMO, and some other MMO's are not like that, why should World of Warcraft be any different?
True, but the fact that there seems to be an end* to a multiplayer game is what kind of puts me off

*Though as people have pointed out, it's not really the end as theres still plenty of stuff to do and experience. Perhaps its just the distinct, marked progression that I like between level 1 and level X, so while theres still stuff to do and gain after you've reached the level cap, it feels like in someways the game has ended.

Like when I finished Battlefield 2.

Isn't the current 'Game Over' point beating Arthas?

I have been guilty of playing.. and I have to admit I have been enjoying it so far. I agree that it would not be easy for us all to migrate to the same server, our merkin bros would be difficult to link up with as they have a different client from us in Europe.

this is me.. http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet ... an&n=Farqu

If anyone is interested in starting I would be more than happy to help out in the early stages.

That is true but you can use a merkin client to connect to the european realms by changing the realmlist.wtf file to:

set realmlist eu.logon.worldofwarcraft.com
set patchlist us.version.worldofwarcraft.com

To update, since I didn't mention my char names:
Sylvanas (PvP):
Faea L20 Human Warlock
Kittychanni L11 Dwarf Hunter
Ryoki L7 Dranei Paladin

I'm playing with these most nights and have a couple of weeks off work (though I do have quite a few XBox games and DVDs I haven't even opened yet) - so would be glad to help out people just starting or doing the free trial - can only give you money on a full account, though.

See above for where much higher-level people are, who would be better at boosting you quickly through the instances.

Silvanas always shows as full - so while that means there are plently of people about and you can make easy money on the auctions, it's more prone to overloading and login queues - although I haven't seen any the last couple of weeks since I started.

You've lost me there.

I wanted to call the character Dick Burn, after Father Ted's nemesis, but I didn't think that would go down well with the admins.
