I don't think anyone is worried about that, as to do so wouldn't be 5punky and the mods are 5punky...

I'm guessing slightly, but:Fear wrote: I don't understand gambling at all, what does that ^ mean?
1.40: = Time of race
4 Three Ships R Lucey-Butler 11-4 = Number, name, don't know, jockey?, odds. Of the first horse. Other horses following second and third.
8 ran = 8 horses ran in the race
non runners : 2,8,11. = Horses 2, 8 and 11 didn't run.
I'll have another 200 on Le Duc, on whatever odds. Le Duc won the Grand National IIRC (not that that really counts for anything, it's a lottery), but I like it because I like ducks.

Number 4: Three Ships was the winning horse, R.Lucey-Butler was the jockey, 11-4 the odds at the start of the race.
11-4 means if you put £4 on you would win £11 (plus your £4), 11/4=2.75, so that's an extra £2.75 for every £ you stake.
I always preferred bets where you could pick the first, second and sometimes third to finish in either any or a specified order - you can make good money off measly stakes - it's a good tactic if you're spending an evening there and don't wan't to blow your wad too quickly. Bit complicated for here, though.
I'll have 200 sperm on Spot the Clifference, currently 3/1 - cheers.

Thanks to DP and FJ for the low-down there, I didn't know all that.FatherJack wrote: (stuff)

I thought I'd post the forecasted odds from the website and stick to that rather than everyone having to check the site for odds and making it more complicated having to post them etc, but I'm happy to take 3/1 instead of 4/1 if you want

2.30: 3 Spot Thedifference Mr J T Mcnamara 11-4, 9 Casadei D J Condon 66-1, 14 Puntal N Fehily 6-1, 14 ran, non runners : 11 Tote Trifecta: #946.20.
Well done FJ, your 200 5perm bet plus your winnings at 4/1 - 800 5perm (total 1000 - is that how it works? thinking about it , it's been many years since I placed a bet!) is winging it's way to you now.

Ta muchly - that is exactly how it works - you won't see it in horse-racing, but sometimes in football matches you get odds like 1-2 (or 2-1 on) or worse, where the result is such an almost-certainty that you win less than your stake - so you always get you stake back when you win.cheeseandham wrote:2.30: 3 Spot Thedifference Mr J T Mcnamara 11-4, 9 Casadei D J Condon 66-1, 14 Puntal N Fehily 6-1, 14 ran, non runners : 11 Tote Trifecta: #946.20.

Incidentally the Trifecta is what I mentioned earlier, by putting a quid on, and correctly guessing 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in the correct order, you'd have won £946.20. It's roughly calculated by multiplying all the odds together. To get them in any order you have had to make six £1 bets for every combination, but still won the same amount.
