New LAN business venture

Thanks for the info so far guys.

I'm pricing things up, and it's starting to look like a very expensive thing to set up, but I'm not giving up yet, I need to know the costs in order to work out how long it would take before making a profit

In my experience, these things need so much funding it's stupid. The electricity bills and the renting of floorspace is astounding, not to mention constant upgrades and buying new games. The playing fields right in the middle of london died after about 5 years, due to a lack of funds. FragZ, in Solihull high street, right next to a college, and beside a huge shopping centre, died after about five years too, due to lack of funds.

Unless you have a lot of monies to commit to it, and a perfect location, then.. Well.. You get ze picture.

Maybe it needs to be something else as a "day job" too. Like a snack bar on an industrial estate with a captive market.

After more investigating, it would seem there have been several failed attempts at setting up a LAN Party business in Bristol, and only one has been successfull, and that's in the city centre, which is also a PC Hardware shop/cafe as well.

I ahve worked out that it would be roughly around the £7000 mark to set everything up with 15 machines, and it's a gamble I'm not willing to take, especially as so many have tried and failed in the past.

Oh well it was worth a look into, as narf it would of been my dream job I think

The workers at our old (ex) LAN place didn't really have a good time, having to deal with morons, chavs and 12 year olds who giggled, shreiked at the top of their voices and illegally looked at porn. They also didnt like the continual abuse of equipment (bashing keyboards, towers, mice and monitors) and the medlee of viruses uploaded onto systems.

If you could control all of the above, then it really would've been an excellent idea

In the end, FragZ had to employ their own family.. For free. Hm.

I wouldn't have liked to see Mrs woo and Baby woo working at a LAN for free.
