I like that skin, better than the old one. The main reason I still use Windows Media Player though is because of the controls you get on the task bar when you minimise it. Does Winamp do that now or not?

Not as standard I don't think, but there will most probably be a plug in somewhere that gives the mini bar thing. I have media controls on my keyboard that work with whatever media player is open, which is nice.

Where did you get 5.5 from? Official site only has 5.35

EDIT: Nevermind, 30 seconds googling and it's downloading

I just noticed this thread whilst looking for anything on sound cards, I'm dream speccing again instead of sleeping, anywhoo, 5.5 has a sort of itunes style mini-player, it has a scaleable jobber for making it so you can stick it at the bottom of a screen above the taskbar, and you'd only lose a line of text from a webpage. I just put it on my other screen, but there you go.

Also, winamp is still win!

I've put an x-fi xtreme gamer oem thing in my ebuyer quote. Along with some 7.1 oem creatives, I'll tape some of the many speakers to my swivvely leather chair.

Also, whats the difference between the gamer and the music version of the same card? Is the gamer one designed to offer less quality but more response compared to the music one?

Windowshade mode FTW

as far as the X-Fi's go, here's Creative's line-up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-fi#Current_X-Fi_line-up

also, as Berk said, the AuzenTech X-Fi Prelude is the best consumer soundcard you can buy. They're still pretty much 100% sold out here.

I had my prelude preordered for like 3 months, they really are rather good.

The only problem I have with Winamp is that the volume control is the windows volume control, so if I want to turn the music down while I'm gaming I can't. I do like Winamp and I've used it for years, but until they sort that out I'll be sticking with Media Player.

Really? I know mine used to do it in like....version 2/3, Winamp volume doesn't affect other apps for me, either on this pc or at home.

Edit: Also, my output plugin is set to DirectSound, Wave I think affects the volume.

Hmmm, maybe I'm on an old version. I shall look into it.

Something I do like about Fista (which can probably by done by free third party software) is that it has a volume control for any program that makes sound.
You can make Winamp loud and mute Firefox. Very woo.

Winamp 5.5 just annoys me though. It seems to take forever to start too.
