I would advise on games for girls, but my miss's is obsessed with Diablo 2, Morrowind and Neverwinter Nights. That and Super Monkey Ball.

Not really girly games (apart from the monkey ball)

I'd suggest grabbing a Gamecube and any games with 'Animal', 'Harvest' or 'Mario' in the title - you can get both games and the system for less than 15 notes each off ebay or second-hand game shops.

While they may seem quite childish, all the girl gamers I know really enjoy them (when they're not playing the Sims) - partly, I suspect, as an antithesis to blowing people's heads off all the time.

Sims2 has moderately high specs, but there are a few Sims clones out there, which presumably offer more of the same, but not quite as good.

As well as that, the ladies I know do enjoy a bit of GTA (VC and SA) as there's something for everyone in them, plus the odd driving game when it not overly competitive.

RPGs are a good bet, all the Final Fantasy games, Skies of Arcadia and Grandia also feature strong female characters. (While the TV adverts may have got the fanboys wanking off, I thought Final Fantasy X2 was essentially a game where you dress up a bunch of dolls).

Any games based on Barbie, Sailor Moon or My Little Pony are utter crap no matter what your age or gender are.
Avoid Deer Hunter, Manhunt and Championship Manager 5.

I got a 'cube a couple of months ago off ebay for around £20, I have everything delivered to work - a cow orker saw and said "fuckin' 'ell - 20 quid!" and proceeded to get one for £12. Saw one in Gamestation at £15.

Got Pokemon Stadium for £7.50, a gameboy player for £13, and various (questionably genuine) gameboy carts for between £2 and £6

Edit: and yeah, they hate the football games ;)

I haven't played The Sims, though I did watch a friend play it on PS2. I figured I'd play it like most of the other Sim games- play them for a week then get bored.

I have never played the Sims, nor have I ever seen it played.

Maybe I should get out more. Or maybe the opposite.

fuck me i had the demo for that, looked realy pretty. i didnt have a clue what was going on though. this thread has quickly turned into 'what games should cashy get'
i steer clear of the sims, i played the 1st one, set fire to the kitchen on purpose a few time n that, was kinda amusing. had like a kitchen with 10 BBQ's inside all lined up and being used one after another to try and get it to go up. and go up it did :D there were no doors to that room, nothing actualy, they were in there for a good week of fire before it burnt out

I had a conversation with a bald northen mentalist at uni once about the sims. He said I was "a bummer" due to the fact that i played the sims. I tried to explain that the game is wierdly compulsive and can make you play even if you dont want to. He didnt believe me, so i lent him the original.

I saw him two days later. He had stopped playing purely to eat sleep and shit. He hated me for it. I laughed.

As for Startopia: bloody brilliant game. Although i did discover that the omputer cheated.
