AMD 64 SKT 939 3500+ @ 2300Hz (Not Overclocked).
2 x One GB PNY DDR400 stick of Ram.
1 x 512MB PNY DDR400 stick of Ram.
Winfast PX 7800GTX TDH 256MB.
Dual AGP/PCI-E Motherboard (Cheapo till i get my LAN party MOBO).
15 Inch LCD Monitor that came with the original machine.
160GB IDE Hard Drive.
2 x Dual Layer DVDRW Drives.
Z-Board (With BEEF keyset).
Razer Diamondback Chameleon gaming mouse.
2.5 Philips Speakers.
Microsoft Gamevoice Headset and USB Control Point.
Logic3 PS2 style controller (For flyinf in BEEF)
2ND Winfast PX 7800GTX TDH 256MB and new SLI Mobo will be bought in Febuary as will a 19 Inch Monitor. AMD Opteron SKT 939 @ 2700Hz processor is aslo being contimplated as is a futher 2GB of RAM.

Hmm, might have to give that a go. I've got a Saitek dual-shock-style rumble gamepad I bought for playing FFXI and emu games, but I never considered trying flight with it.

Nice setup, especially with the further upgrades but the additional RAM is overkill unless you need it for a specific purpose like video editing for instance. I dont think games would make use of it.

Out of curiosity I ran a 3DMark05 test on my old setup and just tried it again on the new one. Whilst I have no real point of reference for the results, I'm guessing that an improvement in score from 953 to 3378 is quite good! Installing HL2 and CS:S again now - FPS above 20, here we come!
what core is your A64 3000+? mine benchmarked at 4449 - its Clawhammer and overclocks incredibly - got it to 2.72ghz

Not sure on the core. Is there any way of finding out other than removing the heatsink? Since its something I've never done (installed cpus/heatsinks) I'm not keen to go fiddling if I don't have to!
Overclocking falls under the same thing too. How does one go about it? Do you need to buy loads of expensive cooling kit?
Come to think of it, I don't even know what the different cores mean. Processor speeds and 32/64bit I know, but whats the difference between winchester/venice/newcastle/clawhammer cores?

i dont actually know
but i know that different cores are able to run at different temperatures, speeds etc. overclocking is fairly simple, and as long as you have a heatsick/fan and decent airflow in your system then it is fine. i used to o'c my celeron via software off the net - cant remember the name of it now, but i overclock my A64 in BIOS setup. my mobo is Gigabyte, and the option is under CPU Speed/Voltage Control or something. you must apply more voltage per every .2 Ghz according to my CPU, but may differ to someone elses.
oh and you can use CPU-ID to check anything about your system, including the core

Thats a nice little program there. Confirmed that my ram is running in dual-channel, and I've got a venice core on my CPU.

Were they advertised as being the same, or being able to run in Dual channel? If they were. you best go complain.
