You quickly nip about the top floor, but theres not much you can see. Being in astral space means you cant really make out details on physical, non-living things, so you don't know if theres anything worth looting or anything like that, but you can't find signs of anything living here thats bigger than a cockroach. Plenty of those, mind, but thats nothing unusual. You do find the entrance to the bunker where the lift is, and you can tell that a lot of not very nice stuff has been passing through here, muddying the astral space slightly more than the rest of this floor. You can't really get a fix on what it is, but it has a similar astral signature to what you experienced a moment ago.
As far as Astral Combat goes, is basically the same as hand to hand combat, only you use mental attributes in place of your physical ones, so its charisma in place of strength. You would normally roll Charisma + Astral Combat, but as you don't have astral combat, you would just be using your charisma. The other difference is that astral combat is speeeedy; you have 3 passes to everyone in physical spaces 1 pass during combat. You can use spells, but only mana ones.

right, then I'll go back to my body and continue searching the area with my Mk. 1 Eyeballs. Are you just going to assign random things based on my Intuition + Perception or anything like that?
If there are any drawers and such I will quickly look in each one I come across and all that, a fairly thorough search since we haven't been attacked yet.

You give the top floor a good going over, but theres nothing here of worth. Theres some dinged up furniture, but thats it. Most of the roof is made of skylights, and they are nearly all smashed to some degree, meaning theres been several years of rain water and wildlife messing things up in here. Couple of things you do discover though:deject wrote:right, then I'll go back to my body and continue searching the area with my Mk. 1 Eyeballs. The power is definitely out to the building. Theres a few lights still intact, and what looks like a node for some sort of AR display in the reception (its built into the wall, so no you cant nick it) that look like they are in working condition, but they have no power.
The security door to the back, and the locks on all the other doors, have all been left open. They have not been forced, so it looks likely that when the place was being emptied, they left all the doors unlocked as they went.
In the storage area at the back, you find that the funny hashed thing on the map is a sort of overhead tram line. It runs out of one of the loading bay shutter doors, and around the corner into a large concrete bunker. Its built separately from the rest of the building, and its bloody big. The walls of it are easily a couple of meters thick, and the roof of it looks the same. The door to the area is one of those thick, metal vault doors: the kind that need a motor to open as they are so heavy. However, its quite obvious that the door was physically pushed open: the bolts that would hold it shut have sheared off, and the motorized hinge is shattered. Its wide open now, and in the gloom inside you can see a large freight elevator and a spiral staircase next to it.
You also notice that although both of the shutter doors for the loading bay are shut, one of them has been sort of bent upwards in one corner, like something grabbed the bottom and pushed upwards. Although its not properly open, theres easily enough space for something human sized to get out.
EDIT: oh, I forgot this bit.
Ive made the rolls for you: Al remembers watching a documentary once about ghouls, and cant remember anything about imitating voices. Chopper knows from experience that the best you get voice wise out of a ghoul comes from the ones that have kept their intelligence, and even they sound raspy, like they have a bad cough. Most of them lose their brains, and are about as talkative as something off your average zombie movie. Imitating small children doesn't seem to be in their skill set.Al wrote:Those voices sounded distinctly fishy. Do we know if these Ghoul things can imitate voice? Might be some kind of ruse.

If the top floor is all infested with ghosts of kids that got experimented on/fucked by doctors and it's also in a bad state of repair then I may well bin the plan to keep the surface buildings going and lose the money. Might be safer in the long run.
Think I'll mental impulse the old room broom to safety off, it's got everyone's pan plugged in so it wont fire if they get in the way. I'll also store those voices in my fancy ears, modulation tone, stress levels etc and that'll help me pick them up far better in future and I'll be able to compare them to any new voices we hear. Eyes are also turned to full, cycling through the various spectrum's and recording what I'm looking at.Frank wrote:Hey, sorry about that, seem to have drifted off for a few seconds there. Time to lock and load.
Joose - Is there a way for us to spark up the AR display in any way? long cable to car battery? Can I have a poke at it with my tools/computer skills and see what's what or would we be bumbling around without a tech guy?Frank wrote:Leland you're looking a little spooked after that mind flight, anything we should be worried of in the ether? Apart from those distinctly horror movie voices I mean? The huge angry creature that tore it's way out of that bunker I can deal with, but ghosts have no ass to kick. I don't see anything up here except that AR over there, and it's out of juice. I don't hear anything unusual either, I'll keep recording and filtering though, those voices have got me wary.

Yay! Everyones back!
Forgot you had cyber ears there. Handy!
At the top of the stairs, you can now peer down. The stairs are the metal mesh variety, and in pretty good condition. However, the only light you can see down there is coming from the stairwell itself. Those of you with low light vision will be able to see well enough to walk about without nutting the walls, but you wont want to get in a fight. Those of you without low light vision are going to be essentially blind down there, unless you have a light source with you.
Not really. Even If you got enough power to start up the display, its probably *just* a display. You would need whatever equipment its attached to to be up and running before it does anything useful.HereComesPete wrote:Joose - Is there a way for us to spark up the AR display in any way? long cable to car battery? Man, that Light spell would be quite handy right about now, lol. I could light everything up in like 6m.Leland wrote:Frank, you know how to make a torch kind of thing? Like a gas soaked towel on a stick? I have my flashlight, but I don't think we all have one. I wonder how much light my miniwielder gives off...

I think I'll flick my eyes into thermographic mode if it's that dark that the low light mode doesn't work.
I'm thinking ghouls/other gribblies will still give off body heat.

*think mode engaged*Frank wrote:FUCK! I dropped a ball here, I automatically went into army mode where everyone's sporting implants. Unfortunately for you guys I didn't pack anything like torches because I don't need them, Sorry....
Joose, please consider this an application for you to consider a feasibility study into me fashioning torches from bits of old t-shirt and my lighter.Frank wrote:I'll tell you what, I'll take off my old t-shirt and we can grab some bits of wood and wrap it around them. My biggest vice is the cancer sticks, so I've got my zippo with me, it's got enough fuel to get a fire going, I don't know how long they'll keep going though. I'd better not run out of a light for my tabs though, or I'll kill everyone!
Frank wrote:We're going to draw attention with the lights as soon as we hit the stairs. Leland you fancy a float downstairs to scout or do you think you might get some crazy voiced spirit chewing on you?
I can scout ahead with my eyes if we want to keep it quiet, see if there's an easy way to fire the generators before we become lunch in the dark. I'm guessing that despite being altered that ghouls still give off body heat so I should be able to pick them up.
