Well, I say "I".
I actually ran away from the two dragons, screaming like a girl. They chased me, and accidentally hit the giant with their dragon breath as I ran past him. I then cowered behind a rock whilst the giant beat the dragons senseless, then popped a sneaky arrow into the mostly dead giant and claimed the spoils of all three. I'm heroic!
So if someone else kills a dragon do you still get the soul?.
I had a similar situation where a giant took out a dragon - I only put a solitary arrow into the scaly bastard, so I assume you get the soul no matter who kills it.

I dont think I hit the second dragon at all, but I got two souls. So yeah, i think so.

Here's me killing a dragon, completely unaided*:

*not at all unaided
I just legged it to a nearby camp, then went around and looted the dead bodies of three Imperial soldiers, two stags, a sabre cat, a bear and a Dark Brotherhood assasin who had decided that having my back turned as I teased a dragon down from its tower was a most opportune moment to attack me.

Pro-Tip
Look for some big stones near the exit from the tunnels at the start of the game.
Don't play up to, like, level 15 without being aware of the existance of Guardian Stones, reading about it on the internet and feeling retarded.

News to me. But then I completely forgot about the compass indicating areas of interest nearby as well. Although I've only just killed my first dragon, so not that far in. I want to go back to the start and check for those areas. It does do that in Skyrim, right?

Glad it's not just me that missed them, apparently it should be something you’re guided towards at the start of the game, the stones provide big bonuses to skill levelling depending on which one you choose.

I saw them, recognised them from afar infact, so I think they'd probably just come up on a transistion/loading screen. I've only found that one set of them though, but have seen pictures of other ones with different images/effects on them.
It seemed a bit weak to keep teleporting back to them and selecting the power again, so I've not bothered, hoping I'll stumble into some other ones.

You don't need to reselect guardian stone buff, it should always stay on. However, if you picked Mage (to increase magic skill leveling) but instead want to focus on hitting stuff, you need to go back and select the Warrior stone.

I can't remember which I chose. I hope it was Mage. I don't care particularly though, I'm happy to level at whatever pace it naturally happens.

If you go into the Magic screen, then look at Active Effects it should tell you. Also handy for seeing if you're diseased (along with all the locals saying "you don't look well").
Hmm, I feel a tips page coming on.

Go and touch it! It might make you a better warrior.

I spent a good 10 mins trying to find this (de)buffs info. I made it a personal quest, after realising I couldn't easily tell if my magic armour was still active. It's certainly not made obvious to you. Although you should really spam magic anyway, when it's safe to do so. Presumably that increases the level through usage?

If it's anything like Raise Zombie/Dead/Revenant you only get skill progression if you use it in combat.

I meant magic generally. I can't spam the armour as it's too expensive right now. How about making sure you heal with magic as much as you can, rather than eating, potions or waiting on regen?

Ah, I see. Yeah, I've been neglecting Restoration until recently when I started running out of potions.

If you want to spam, for example, Restoration, jump off a moderately high cliff (as long as it doesn't kill you) and just keep healing yourself through magic. Destruction will only level if you're hitting a bad dood with it, and likewise Armour will only level if you're the one being hit.
Alteration and Illusion should be fairly easy to level, as you can cast those spells as you're walking around (unless they're combat specific spells like Fury, Calm, Flee etc).

While I'm still waiting on my copy to re-arrive, can someone do a magic based test for me?
Go find a hard lock, and spam Open Easy Lock (if they still exist) on it, are you getting XP or have Beth fixed that loophole from Oblivion?

Open Lock was always one of my staple spells in Morrowind and Oblivion, but I don't have a single one of them in this. I think it's because the mini-game is a lot less frustrating that I've not felt the need. Also Lockpicking levels even when you break lockpicks.

I prefered lockpicking, but using Open Very Easy Lock (later Easy then Medium) on a harder lock than the spell meant you got XP for Alteration even though you didn't unlock it. Stack of coins on the cast key and it was afk xp.
