I like Sharlto Copley and this looks promising albeit a little bit "Heroes" (which is starting up again as well). Cynical me might think it's cashing in on the superhero genre, but I think it looks like a slightly different angle than usual.

It's the modern equivalent of straight-to-video.

It's only really new in the geological sense, but I finished watching season 1 of Fringe the other day. It was okay, dragged a bit around the middle. Every show seemed to have pretty much the same plot. But 20 episodes in a season? Is that normal for an American series? British shows usually only manage about 8.
In other news, anyone recommend anything good on Netflix? I don't think I can handle another 80 episodes of Fringe.

Yep, american shows are normally about 20-24 episodes a season. Its got advantages and disadvantages (beyond the simple "theres more of the thing you like"): The british approach means things have to be tighter, so there is no room for shitty filler episodes like the infamous "flashbacks" which are just highlights of previous episodes chopped up and stuck together (Friends was a bugger for this). On the other hand, the american approach means you don't have to devote each and every episode to pushing the plot forward, leaving you more room to have fun with the setting and flesh out your characters. My favourite SG1 episode, for example, is a groundhog day style affair that could have been skipped over entirely and you wouldn't have missed any plot developments at all.

What joose said, it is thus because merkin telly has 2 seasons, autumn, which runs from september to may and the other one, basically they put all the expensive and interesting stuff on over winter, because you're (in theory) more likely to go outside when it's not raining sideways.
This is why you get ~20 episodes of stuff. Unless it's new and doesn't really get that many viewers, then they get like 12, and left to rot on hulu.

Yes, early seasons in small doses, is not a candidate for binge watching.

They tend to need to have a lot of episodes per season to get picked up for syndication, which is a very profitable avenue for previously-aired shows. Syndication is where another channel buys a large amount of episodes and shows them in bulk, like Dave does with Top Gear, etc - there need to be a decent number, like 100, so they don't repeat too often, which is why they try to attain that many in 4-5 seasons.
British shows are usually finished before they air, so they aren't gambling on the extra funding as they are paid for already, but only for a typically small number of episodes. They are also usually owned/written by a small production team who do everything rather than a huge pool who can work simultaneously on different episodes. Some series, like Sherlock have only a couple of new episodes, or skip years altogether, sometime owning to actor's commitments as they usually have a tighter cast than the ensemble of US shows.

I'll drop this here, as the new season isn't far off:
Mythbusters has ended. 16 seasons is pretty good going.

Ah well.
I can't say I'm surprised, they have pretty much done everything. Twice. It's getting pretty stale at this point.
Still, more adam on tested.com, and every other weird thing that they decide to let him make.
Good times ahead.

Based on the com...graphic novel of the same name. They were very good, so interested to see what they do with this. Will probably go the way of Constantine though.
