Yep, combat's over.
The symbol doesn't feel very special. It's not glowing with arcane power, or filling you with celestial awe.
As far as you can tell it's just decoration, and by the looks of it an excuse to save on bricking up the building properly.
Make another fort save to resist secondary poison damage.

Bart looks grim.
A spider. Surely the work of Pholtus! Be strong Shankley, we have nothing to fear whilst we do the work of St Cuthbert.
What do I need to roll for smashing a door down?

Eeeeh.
Also, can we not just unbolt the door?

Ouch, you take 2 points of Strength Ability damage, the wound starts to sting and your hand feels weak.
If you put that into your magical spreadsheet (8, under temp score) you'll see that lowers your Str modifier from 0 to -1.
---
<b>EDIT</b>
Make a heal check if you want to avoid taking this ability damage.
D20 + Heal ranks + Wis Modifier. Can be used untrained.
<s>Actually, help me out here. Who makes the check, Forenrond to heal himself, or Bart to try and help Forenrond?
http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Heal_Skill</s>
Apparently either. It's just long-term-care you can't apply to yourself.
---
The door is barred, not bolted.
You can either strength-check barging the door down with your shoulder, or start attacking it with a normal melee attack.
If you want to do the latter, toss a few damage rolls with your mace and I'll let you know when it comes down (if at all).

Yeah, you suck at your nasty bite wound and drain the poison out, spitting it clear away. No ability damage! Hooray!
Bart charges the menacing door, and with a loud crash and ring of metal smashing into metal..
PRRRAAANG! He bounces off.
Make a spot check

You see about fifty tiny black spiders crawl out from all the cracks in the chapel's wall, and felcher through the big hole at the top.
The way they bunch and gather around the rim of it almost makes them glisten as a mass of moving legs and eyes. It's not pleasant to watch.

Urh, that can't be good.
Shankley wrote:Did you see that? All those spiders? I know the temple's a bit derelict, but is that normal?
I think I need to take a look inside. I'll leave Bart bashing the door and climb up to one of the windows.

You clamber through the window easily enough, it's tall but stretches almost to the ground - you even reckon Bart could make it through if he took the bulkier bits of his armour off first and carried them in afterwards.
In the morning sunlight the inside of the chapel is clearly visible. Everything is in disarray. The pews have been disturbed and moved around, bunched up into groups with the ornamental parts sawed or snapped off, the altar at the far end has been cleared of anything valuable. Even the runner that stretches from the entrance to the dais has been cut up and left in a heap.
After the thorough looting attempt the church has a sort of faded beauty to it, there are a few unlit torches mounted on the walls and half-melted church candles on ledges or smushed into the flagstones below.
The ceiling is covered in spider webs.
It also appears to be moving.

Spiders. Why'd it have to be spiders.
I'll light a torch of my own and call Bart over.
Shankley wrote:Think you can get through here? It's not hard. Also, take a look up there.
I'll gesture at the spiders on the ceiling.

Well, I'll join you then. And, unless squeezing through the gap has somehow spontaneously generated me a ranged attack, Bart is now also looking at the ceiling spiders.

I don't think I've enough arrows to kil all those spiders.
I'll preceed Bart once he's nearby (I can drop a rope for him if need be) and tread cautiously into the temple. Keeping an eye out for dangerous looking spiders.

The swarming ceiling doesn't seem to mind too much, just yet.
