Yes, I think it rocks. And because I can leave it running whilst I go to work I now have 20.76 Gcreds - win!Sheriff Fatman wrote:tvtorrents dot com for all your sweeping needs.
They have the 350MB versions up within hours of the US airtime, and usually have a high res version up a few hours after that.

And how exactly am I going to watch those on my 42" Plasma?
Not all of us like to watch everything through a PC screen, or want the hassle of hooking up their PC to the Telly in the lounge.
I'd much rather just hit a green button on my remote and series link the entire thing all recorded for me without any hassles on Sky+

As mentioned several times before, I have done the whole download divx/xvid thing and burn/play it on the DVD player, and not only is it time consuming, awkward & annoying, the quality has never ever been better than watching something through a digital TV broadcast.
Plus, I have a missus who also enjoys watching the stuff I like, and I cannot see the 2 of us huddled round the PC watching it on a 24" widescreen LCD, when there is a perfectly good living room with a sofa to sit on, whilst enjoying watching a program on our big Plasma.
Seriously, watching TV on a PC is only good if you are interested in watching something on your own, sat in an office chair.
The only thing I ever use avi files for nowadays is dropping them onto my MP4 player and watching on the go.
I really cannot stand watching shitty quality stuff even if I'm not that interested in what I'm watching. Even the HD quality movie files that I've burned onto DVD and played back through several different DVD players I have, never look as good as a proper DVD or digital broadcast.
Lets face it, the only reason most of us on here download divx/xvid stuff is because it's either not shown over here on a TV station we cannot access, it's a way of watching content for free (all be it illegally), or because we are all fairly geeky and our lives revolve around PC's.

The reason I watch things on PC is because I watch them when I want to, not when the TV schedule dictates. With a tivo / sky+ that nullifies my argument a little - but it still has to be broadcast first.
Most people I know my age have a Media Centre (or equiv PC) which seems to be the best solution all round. Not without costs though I know. I don't see many plasmas/tfts without the vga cable, or hdmi if you are more up to date.
I can't stand watching sub-dvd quality avi's - more specifically I am an audiophile (aka: sound geek) and have my PC connected to over £1k of sound equipment. Good picture is also a must, but I'm less bothered with that so long as it resembles something like it should.
Edit: Also I refuse to watch adverts. I would rather not watch telly than have to watch adverts. If anyone has actually watched 24 with adverts they'll understand how they can utterly ruin something.

I don't mind watching adverts, and I don't mind waiting for something to be on TV (although I can't quite explain why - it's like how you'll go out of your way to watch a film on telly even though you've had it on DVD for years).

I'm guessing many 5punkers here don't live with their missus (or have one for that matter
If I tried to explain to the missus abotu how to download dodgy movies using bit torrent, and making sure you download it in the right codec that plays fine with our current DVD player, then burning these files with an application to a DVD making sure to tick certain boxes and the like... then to have to select which episode is what, ignoring all the usual random bollocks at the beginning or end of the filename such as MEGA_Craxx0rz-Xvid-HD-SE1-EP1""""""..........
....well, she probably would have given up at the download bit.
I think the point I'm trying to make here, is that TV isn't just "TV" anymore.
With the massive amount of hard drive, dvd, sky/cable recorders out there, you can quickly and easily browse/search tv listings, find what you like, set it to record, and forget about it.
This now means I watch hardly anything that isn't recorded, and every single advert is only a quick 5-10 seconds of fast forwarding.
If you know anyone with a digital TV recording device, ask them what they think, and nearly 9 out of 10 times they will always say it has completely changed the way they watch TV, and the enjoyment they get from watching tv series one after the other, along with pausing live tv etc...
I cannot fault Sky+ (now the initial problems were resolved with the box) and I actually pay £10 a month to use it (as I refuse to buy the premium packages to get Sky+ Free) because it is that good, and so easy to use for both myself, and more importantly the missus.

Main reason I do it schedules. I hate having to wait, and downloading stuff minimises that: if its on anywhere in the world I can get it within an hour or so, and if the whole series has been broadcast already I can get the whole thing and watch as much or as little as I like. Also, I have a terrible tendancy to forget when things are on. This wasnt helped much by the sky+ when I was at my parents house, as the shitty-small drive in there doesnt allow you to store an awfull lot in one go.
also: I cant be bothered to spend all that money each month on sky. I dont have a huge telly, so the quality increase is unnoticable. I dont actually watch that much telly, as the stuff I want to watch is hardly ever on. So I would essentially be spending a load of money for the ability to watch things later than I can with the internets, with a mild increase in usability. No ta.
Anyway, you can get ickle boxes from Pinnacle (the Pinnacle ShowCenter 200) that you plug into your telly just like a DVD player, and then plug it into your home network (via wireless if you so wish). It'll stream anything on your network to your telly, piece of piss. Films, tv shows you have downloaded, music, interweb radios, whatever. It also supports HD. And it can be got off eBay for less than £80. Hassle argument DENIED!

Actually, i do, and i do.Woo Elephant Yeah wrote:I'm guessing many 5punkers here don't live with their missus (or have one for that matter) and if they did, they'd realise women want their TV viewing to be plain and simple.
So would mine. Which is why I said "You can download TV and film off the telly!" to which she replied "Cool, can you get film X for me?"If I tried to explain to the missus abotu how to download dodgy movies using bit torrent, and making sure you download it in the right codec that plays fine with our current DVD player, then burning these files with an application to a DVD making sure to tick certain boxes and the like... then to have to select which episode is what, ignoring all the usual random bollocks at the beginning or end of the filename such as MEGA_Craxx0rz-Xvid-HD-SE1-EP1""""""..........

She doesnt have to do any of the technical bits. As for the end of the file always being wierd: Have you ever heard of the cracking feature in Windows nowadays know as "rename"?

Then be surprised, as they are. Unless you are getting HD sky (which the Heroes program wont be on), you can easily download a couple of films or a short series at broadcast quality (which is actually less than DVD quality by the way) overnight in most cases.Woo Elephant Yeah wrote:Erm we seem to have posted at the same time, but that pinnacle thing does sound good, but I'd be suprised if the quality is as good as a digital broadcast or DVD without having to download massive illegal HD files

Yeah, watching a download on my pc the quality looks much worse because I'm watching a 576x720 file at 1920x1200, on my TV (through Xbox media center) I can watch it in my living room at the press of a button in quality equal to normal TV.Joose wrote:Then be surprised, as they are. I'm not dissing normal TV or the sky plus method (if I had it I'd love it) and I do watch a fair amount of normal TV but for the TV programmes I'm interested in it's all about availabilty, I can watch it first via download at the same quality whenever I want.
If I didn't watch it via downlaod I'd have to wait until it was on UK TV and watch it when broadcast becasue I don't have sky plus, I can also keep it for as long as I want and burn it to a DVD to give to mates/family
