That's normal. Messages stay in the Outbox until the recipient reads it, then it's moved to the Sent box. While it's in the Outbox you can still edit your message.

*blows off dust*

I'm having regular (daily/bi-daily) issues with a 500 error. Can't remember which one for some reason. It spends a few minutes trying to load before timing out anyway. I've been ignoring it but as it just swallowed up a post I'd written on clicking submit I feel compelled to bring it up.

Is it just me or are others getting it?

I might be. I have trouble connecting some times but, like any true user reporting a fault, never bothered to pay any attention to the error.

Yeah, ive had it a few times. Not often, but probably at least once every couple of weeks for the last few months.

I'm guessing the higher frequency of me noticing is due to the inordinate amount of times I visit the site every day. Doing between sod and fuck all takes it's toll.

We're with Dreamhost, yes? I guess problem might be navigating the ocean and crawling onto our dreary banks.

Anyhoo, I guess the crux is is it worth investigating with the host gods?

Fwiw, Dreamhosts had a major near meltdown on some servers recently (Xenonauts was one of the more notable ones) causing some to be down for at least 3 days if not an entire week. They're still not fully recovered with some sites running off lesser backup servers.

I'd imagine that some of the knock on effects from that probably being the cause of some of the 500 errors recently.

I had a look at the web server logs, but it didn't show anything particularly useful. The most detail I can find is the following from the error logs:

Premature end of script headers: posting.php
Premature end of script headers: index.php

This enters PHP code territory and that's out of my range of experience.

I'd make an educated guess and suggest it could be an intermittent problem with the forum code talking to the backend database, which is on a different server I believe.

Can we get access to the PHP logs?

Hazarding a guess, it's probably the backend server losing connection whilst a request is being made. So there's probably not a lot we can do from our side.

I haven't been able to load 5punk for the last 10 minutes and have gone copied thing!

Code: Select all

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@5punk.co.uk and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
buzz, I've had this for quite a few months now so probably not down to that.
