Getting the SP achievements, particularly the Smash TV one was quite pleasing, as I had that same feeling of bending the rules that I got from the advanced chambers in the first game.
I've since checked out a few videos on YouTube and found a few quite different solutions to them as well. I like that there actually are a couple of alternate ways to do at least part of the puzzles, giving a bit of replay value, as I'd feared all the but the "correct" solutions had been overplaytested out of existence, a view the devs commentary sometimes reinforced.
Was hoping for a bit of co-op sometime, but it's probably best to avoid spoilers by not teaming with someone that hasn't completed the SP game. In addition, preserving my co-op virgin status until someone's ready who's completed the co-op would grant them the Professor Portal achievement.

Just finished. Steam says 8 hours, Xfire may say a little more if it was working, but with family distractions 8 hours seems a good average.
As I played it I had a number of reservations. There's loading screens, which I'm pretty sure could have been avoided as with the first game. There's some auto-aiming, which seems like pandering to the consoles. GLaDOS appears to have become more human and less GLaDOS. They bothered me. Until I realised that actually I was really enjoying the game, and that I don't care. As such I can see how they would bother the forum trolls and seething fanboys who have nothing better to do then waggle their e-peens at each other by being more capable of seeing the game as crap than the next e-peen waggling fanboy.
I started off not keen on GLaDOS, but convinced myself that she had been sent a bit crazy. I ended up liking her.
I started off loving Wheatley, but he got a bit annoying towards the end.
Cave Johnson was brilliant throughout.
By the end of the closing sequence I was grinning like a spaz and ready to start playing again, just like Portal.

I didn't notice any auto-aiming on mine. I also thought Glados acted and sounded more human, but the dialogue was cracking me up so much I didn't care.
I suppose with the first game, there is always the facade from the beginning that it's just a normal test centre - it's only as the game progresses that you begin to realise that Glados isn't entirely trustworthy. Obviously from the beginning of the 2nd game there is no longer any need for such deception.

It was kind of more that you fired your portal at something and it would land in a very specific set place if it needed to be there, even if the shot didn't actually put it there.
I do remember one thing actually that still bothers me, although it's less frequent as the game goes on - invisible walls. I tried to break the game a lot early on by trying to sneak through little holes, and found many invisible walls. Portal or not, that's not great level design.

I noticed that as well and tried to make them off-center, but obviously failed. It seems to me that it was to avoid having to fine tune your portals to make the puzzles work. Slamming into a wall just to the side of a portal because it wasn't just right and having to start that bit again wouldn't have added any fun, for most people. All the puzzles seemed to have been designed so you can quickly finish a room if you know the solution.

Yeah, there were certain areas where portals always auto-centred, usually marked by being a white panel surrounded by smaller square panels or having the raised bits either side like the fixed portals near the start.
They also auto-rotated so you'd always be coming out of them the right way up, which probably made it a lot less sickening for some people. While that did remove some of the difficulty, I agree with spoodie that it only removed the frustration - frustration that was absolutely rife in the add-on levels for the first game made from the flash game.

That's true, I gave up on those after one level which involved rotating in mid air and firing off a portal before you hit the ground again. I knew what needed doing, but I just couldn't orient myself.
As I said, pretty much all the gripes I found I later decided didn't bother me. The game did seem easier, but no less fun for it and I'm sure there'll be some tricky extra maps released either by Valve or by fans.
Anyone want that Professor Portal achievement? I need to play the co-op now. In the meantime I'm going to go through it finding the secrets and doing the achievements.

I've still got to play portal 2 co-op myself, so if anybody else wants a go poke me some time. Preferably not on a weekday unless I've got the next day off.

No, you need to have completed the game yourself then guided someone who hasn't.
