I've got something here guys. There's definitely been some activity going on in this pipe. I am going to check it out.
Is it possible for me to get in there and take a good look without unhooking my climbing gear?

Depends how long the rope on your climbing gear is. A 15m drop plus 20m of tunnel.

*Resists putting a river of pink slime down there*

Well the rule book says the climbing kit has a 100m rope so I guess I can then. I'll head on into the interconnect.

Upon closer inspection, it appears that the already weakened vanes of the vent have been forced open by some sort of hard object being used as a lever. You also notice that there seems to have been quite a lot of movement through here as the ones that have remained intact have had the crust of rust and grime polished off them by passing beings. The hole isn't huge, but it's big enough to fit an adult human through. A Shaktar or Stormer would struggle though.

Dirk arrives on scene.

 look in that hole
Yep, this is definitely where the people are coming in and out. What do you guys think, should we go through and investigate? We do need to get Dirk's stuff back, but maybe we should call it in to Maintenance so they know about the breach ASAP.

Still I'd like to know where this goes, because if it's just cut off we won't know where these guys are.

It if leads nowhere then at least we can say we had a thorough look, and head back

Dirk you coming down here? I'm going to tie off my rope in here because it would just restrict my movements on the other side.
deej waits for a response from Dirk for a moment while tying his rope off onto a bit of metal before continuing.
Here goes nothing.
He sticks the AV stalk into the opening to get some idea of where he can get a footing on the other side and look for anything suspicious before just going through.

Closer inspection doesn't reveal a lot more - I gave Deject his description on the assumption he'd move up and have a look - but since Dirk has such keen eyes he spots a clump of hair snagged on one of the freshly bent vanes. It's pretty unlikely it could be there unless it got there after the vane was damaged.

Dirk wrote:Unless maintenance have been down here recently, I'd say this was our breach point - look like someone has caught a lock of their hair here. I'll take a sample for later analysis but leave the rest in place. How do you want to play this now? Continue onwards, or set up some sort of remote activated monitoring device down here to give us some idea of the numbers involved?

I was thinking the same thing, let me set up one of my new mini-cams and let it sit there while we go in. Too bad there's no way I can send the video to you right now Dirk.

Yeah, you probably can. I reckon Deej's bit of computer knowledge should cover it.

There's not an awful lot of difference on the other side. There's no huge shaft (pffft), but the tunnels seem a lot more three dimensional. As far as activity goes though, there's not a lot apart from a few large rats.

It angles off a bit, and down a bit, and emerges into a large drain similar to the one you started in. It stretches off into the darkness in both directions, and every 15m or so there are smaller tunnels like the one you're in branching off it. Some bring in water, others, like the one you're in, are pretty much dry.
