You get astral cars?
Al wrote:Well, I'm not too crazy about being bait but I kind of expected to be mentioned. I know I'm not going to be a whole lot of use here so I'll just do what I can, but if there's people jostling for the job then I'm happy to let them. If any of these ghouls run a business though you'll be glad you had me around.
The last sentence said with an ironic half smile.

I just had an image of Al being dragged along the ground by a winch, ghouls in hot pursuit, and him yelling "Watch the coat! It's brand new!"

Actually, if you guys are about done, you want to head on over that direction, maybe do some recon or do you want to brainstorm and formulate ideas first?

I'll assume I've walked you all through to the armoury now, no one except deej/leland got any objections to the scanner system?
Frank wrote:I'm gonna have to sit down and work out sums. I've got a high res projector on the table there that'll split the clinic and facility into supersized zoomed in chunks and whatnot if your looking for routes.

Leland, if you want to float on over then we'll park you in the corner, I've got whale-song and rainforest noises to help with your trance...

...I'm just kidding!
Frank wrote:If we need someone in that harness then a grappling winch isn't strong enough. Hell I'll walk in there and draw a few out on foot if need be, better that than strap the man into a harness and watch him get eaten as he stumbles on the rope or whatever.

It shouldn't take me too long to work through my sums hour or two to make sure I don't kill us all.
right, logic of 4 and a demolitions skill of 3, I'm thinking I've got superior working conditions (+1) and I've got augmented reality enhanced plans (+2) but do these count for this test or are they just when building/repairing things? I'll roll with my basic 7 until joose says yay or nay on the modifiers. Right, given I'm not 100% on how this all works and joose gave me a (I think) target of ten with 30 minute intervals so

roll one - 2, 2, 4, 5, 6, 4, 5 which is 3 hits.
roll two - 6, 3, 4, 6, 1, 5, 5 so 4 more but does that one mean a fuck up?
roll three - 6, 4, 3, 2, 3, 2, 5 that's 2 more.
roll four - 3, 5, 3, 6, 3, 2, 2 a hit extra.

I think I've got that right. Two hours to get over the 10 I was aiming for, maybe that 1 means I end up killing us all. I'm too tired to look it up so I'll let joose tell us.

yes, the modifiers do count for that test. And no, you need a lot more than a single 1 to fuck up, you need more than half of the dice to come up 1 for a glitch to happen.

I wont make you re-roll though, we'll just say it took an interval off, so its 1 and a half hours. You have worked out you need just over 1kg of decent plastic explosives, and a radio timer to set it off from. As long as you are near the top of the lift shaft when you set it off, it'll have no problem with the signal damping stuff.

Ok, choices choices. You can buy the explosives you need, or you can make your own.

Buying would cost 450nuyen, plus 40 for the detonator. Making your own would actually cost slightly more, the advantage being its a lot easier to get hold of the ingredients. However, your mates shop has some in stock, spoiling my fun.

As it takes 1.5 hours to work all this out, what are the rest of you doing in the meantime?

Right I think I shall use the time to very cautiously project astrally and just kind of get an overview of the area without getting close, as I know that ghouls can do assensing so I want to be careful as to how I approach.

I do have a question about the ghouls though (I'll say it in character because it makes more sense this way):
Leland wrote:Hey guys, you know how ghouls hate sunlight yeah? Do you guys know of any way to generate something that's basically the same as sunlight? Is it just the UV we need? Because I'm just thinking if we can somehow get some sunlight-esque light there, it'd probably help out lots.

Right, I'll let you guys see if you can figure out something with that, I'm going to make like Ghost Dad and see what I can see, so to speak.
Should I make an assense roll at all?

Chopper wrote:Apart from UV lights, we could also look at getting a hold of some mirrors - get them angled up so they shine into the building. No idea where we'd get them from though.

If we're going for a daylight insertion we'll need to start as early in the morning as possible so that we're not pushing for time as night comes.

UV lights, I mentioned then 2 bloody pages ago! Bah.

Also, daylight insertion pfffffft.

I already bought 16 radio detonators and 2kg of rank 6 foam explosive, it's plastique in a can and means you don't have to shape it on site, you spray it so the brisance is maximised by piling the foam. What rank did you have in mind as your 'high quality' and I'll work out from there how much more foam I need.

I'll fill out a proper character sheet is someone has the blank available, then Joose doesn't have to try and wade through all the noted I've made.

well. When we get to the place to start reconning, I shall do some astral perceiving. I got 5 hits on my Assensing roll.

I'll also check the place out with my thermographic vision and stuff.

Mid Afternoon. Say three-ish.

You get to the place, and observe from a safe distance. The local area is kinda run down, but not the poorest part of Seattle by any stretch. Its one of those sort of places where theres people sat on the stairs to the buildings, just sort of hanging about. Theres not much in the way of road traffic, and what there is is pretty beat up. The most activity you see is a road sweeping drone going past (not in itself unusual) that almost sweeps up a cat by mistake. The sensors on the thing are probably a little pooched. Some youths are hanging about on the street corner with their motorbikes, they look kinda familiar.
I'll also check the place out with my thermographic vision and stuff.
All you can really make out from out here is that there doesn't appear to be any activity on the ground floor.

You know how Astral space is affected by things in the real world, like magic or strong emotions? So things like a murder scene leave the astral space kinda muddied and unpleasant? And its worse if the murder was done through magical means? Well, this place, astrally, feels like a whole herd of Elephants have been shitting all over it, after eating toxic waste. For a month. From out here, you may as well be trying to see through crude oil. Beyond "Bad things, probably involving magic in some way, have happened here for quite a while", you cant really tell whats happened here. But if the place does have a ghoul infestation, in a place that used to be doing probably illegal research into a magically based disease, thats hardly surprising. You can try to project through it if you fancy it, the astral badness itself wont affect you.

nah I think we should just head back unless there's something specific Chopper wants to look at.

BTW, it shall be retconned in that I drove my car here, and that I'll use it to drive back when we're done.

Fuck it, instead of joose reworking his calcs I'll buy the explosive. I have radio detonators though so -450 nuyen from me, I won't ask the others to chip in because I'm the only one getting the extra 1k nuyen for saving the clinic. :P

I was hoping my car hadn't gone in there. I'd have been worried for its safety.

heh, fair enough. I'll let you guys fight amongst yourself as far as sharing the pay is concerned :P

Anything else you want to check out whilst you are here?

I want to get close enough to use my spatial sense properly. I think I'm going to cast it at full strength, as we have more leeway and time for me to recover any stun before going in for reals. I'm still not quite sure how the damn thing works, but surely going for horse 6 will hopefully tell us something interesting.
Leland wrote:Hey Chopper, I want to do one more thing before we head back to Frank's shop. Just come with me and watch my back for a sec. I'm not going in, but this spell might give me a nasty headache and if we do get attacked I might be a bit distracted.
Spatial Sense horse 6 (DV: 5)
Magic + Spellcasting: 5 hits
Logic + Willpower: 3 hits

I take 2 points of stun damage. I'm going to annotate the maps and floorplans that Frank sent to my PDA thing with whatever I learn from the spell before dropping it.

I did wonder about that myself. Mind you, that bonus goes down to 550 with that spending and I think I'll be suggesting that bonus goes on any other pool resources we use. The gear I've procured makes up for it a little (although the 10% reduction added up to about 20Y), but honestly I'm more interested in surviving this one than making money. Any profit I make is a bonus.

In character I'll let that slip seeing as the whole job pivots around Frank.
