Another film I can't wait to see in the cinema, 2007 is looking like a blinder for big budget CGI flicks

Saw it with my good lady, I was a big kid all the way through it. I kept making geeky refrences about the transformers and what was happening, she said it was cute but I secretly know she was thinking "thank fuck he's sexy and hung like a mule or I'd leave his geeky ass"

Mostly forgettable, with a half-hour Gundam episode on the end. The closing scene made me physically sick.

The mixed response is putting me off rushing to the cinema to see it I think.

I think it's one of those films you have to just turn off and enjoy, it does have some hilariously cheesy moments but also got some ZOMG BIG FUCKING ROBOTS OPTIMUS HAVE MY BABIES ALL OVER AGAIN!! moments.

:above: this. Deactivate brain, enjoy stompy robot tiem. The storyline is fucking toss, but its got some funnies, good action scenes, the cgi is awesome, and the vehicles are all of the shiney.

Interestingly, I came out of the film with a bunch of major plot holes bugging me. Then I read the preview comics, and most of the plot holes were fixed. Case in point:

Decepticons need obscure info: they kill and aspload, brutally hack some military network and almost start world war three.

Autobots need obscure info: They google it.

Given the product placement in this movie, I think you meant to say:

I honestly didnt think the product placement was that bad. Yeah, they say ebay a lot, but not a lot more than people would in normal conversation. If the whole product placement thing hadn't been pointed out to me before hand, I probably would never have noticed.

Are you serious? What about the shot in the tunnel where Bumblebee has just turned from the old Camaro into the new one, and the two people stand there off to the side saying "wow" or words to that effect? It's like a fucking car ad (not to mention that Bumblebee should be a Volkswagen Beetle). And the transformation sequence where the final stage is the Chevrolet logo? It's intrusive and obnoxiously bad, and I still don't want to buy any car made by GM. Here's a hint, guys: rather than blowing your money on marketing, try spending it on trying to make cars that don't suck.

What, are you saying that if your crappy old banger of a car suddenly turned into a considerably more shiney new and expensive one, you would *not* stand there looking impressed?
(not to mention that Bumblebee should be a Volkswagen Beetle).
And Jazz was originally a porsche, and Megatron was originally a gun. So what? Whats that got to do with product placement?

So intrusive and obnoxious that I didnt even notice. When does that happen?

Well, first of all I don't drive a crappy old banger. :P
Second, if my car could transform into a giant stompy robot, anything it did after that would probably not be that amazing to me.
Third, it's not that they stood there looking impressed, it's more the way that bit came across - like a car ad rather than a movie. GM certainly got their money's worth.

That's why I didn't mention it.
It's just another way in which the movie irritated me.

I don't recall, and I definitely can't be bothered to sweep the movie again, but it is in there (as I'm sure others will confirm).

Product placement wasn't the only thing that made this movie mediocre in my opinion, but it certainly didn't help at all.

Perhaps some of the seemingly obvious product placement doesn't grate with people unfamiliar with the products:

I noticed an XBox box - but that's only because I've seen the boxes - what emerged wasn't obviously a 360, and I couldn't tell you what the phone was.

The fact they said his car was a "Camaro" was the only reason I know, I'd have said it was a Dodge or Ford. Doesn't mean much to me and sounds a bit wet for an American car, if I was buying one I'd pick a Thrustmaster2000 or a Penetrator.

eBay, like Google is just a generic thing - the BBC used to say it all the time, until apparently some other online auction site complained.

I saw GMC on the truck-front, but that's as generic as Mack to me - I'm unlikely to go truck-shopping anytime soon. I don't think people here generally equate GMC with GM-Vauxhall/Opel.

I didn't know what the Chevrolet logo was until fairly recently, I only checked it out as there was a Sky transmission of some US car race where they kept blurring out the logo in the corner of the screen, except sometimes they were a bit slow getting the blur there after the adverts. It made me curious - which was the exact opposite of what Sky were trying to do.

Most likely it was Google and eBay who complained, purely because both names risk becoming generic, which they really don't want*
