I'm assuming you know about the Lacner's Reactor? I found it hiding amongst my old bookmarks.

Theres definatly a B5 mod for VegaStrike, but sadly no multiplayer as yet. Plus VS is freeware.

ETA: I tell a lie, apparently the multiplayer mode has gone alpha: http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/forum ... php?t=7385

Unfortunately I can see your point about the missions getting repetitive, and I'm not expecting anyone to be playing this when I get back in two weeks. It's a pity because it's kind of like Eve Light designed for a few players, but there's just not enough to do to keep people interested. Could maybe survive if we jumped on a random server with other people, but I reckon we'd get kicked before long.
The robots and monkeys are in the regular game actually. They're extremely hard to find, and even if you know where they are, it's nearly impossible to get to their planets without getting killed. It's another place I found while cheating so I could wander with impunity.
