Haha, I'll confess to having done the same thing last time I installed a floppy drive too.

The worst/most amusing moment that springs to mind is annihilating my mobo with an electronic screwdriver trying to use it to put the socket A AMD stock cooler + heat sink on (they are berks to put on with any screwdriver let alone a big numb electric one).
other mad moments include spilling a pint of coke on my keyboard and spending the next hour and a half drying it out with a hair dryer (it did the job!) and putting a CD in too quickly and closing the tray before it was seated properly causing it to get wedged inside the case, bye bye red alert disk 2...

Also i remember my mate's bro managing somehow to connect his PS2 to his computer via a USB slot... turn on PS2, BANG goes the mobo (quite literally i believe)

Mistakes? I've made a few:

Trying to fix the power button on a 486, back when the power button had 240v running through it, forgot to switch off at the mains and was only saved electricution by the trip switch.

Dropping several thousand pounds worth of HP server HDD array down a flight of stairs, they were fine.

Fixing a loose sound card with the PC still on, dropping the screw onto the motherboard and blowing the board.

FDISKing the wrong drive during windows setup leaving me with a broken windows installation and a blank documents and files drive - very useful

Restoring a test database over the top of a live customers SQL database then finding out their backup was corrupt

Blowing up a parallel Zip drive by using the wrong transformer

Re-arranging the jumpers for the LED segments on an old AT case display to say "PIS" in normal mode and "OFF" in turbo mode, having a laugh with the tech guys, forgetting about it, coming back in the next day to find it had been sent back to the customer.

I've done the floppy cable one, its not like i ever even used the thing either. :shakefist:

Dropped at various times- 2 hdd's, one survived, one appeared to have survived, then slowly died, the one that survived was storage, the one that died had windows on.
A 17" crt, was a piece of shit beige school computer style thing, so i wasnt bothered, unfortunately i dropped it on the corresponding case, which didnt like it one bit and proceded to flash, spark and generally shit me up, also almost lost my 1st year dissertation with this little mishap, thanks be to me for backups.
1 laptop, belonging to the philosophy department of newcastle university, it was a piece of shit that was so old and fragged it needed it really, so they weren't too fussed, got them a new one and me a pint of beer from my tutor. :ahoy: :boogie:

Best i think is going to a lan with mates, then trying to slyly unplug one fella's rj45, forgetting that they clip in and consequently pulling his laptop away from him and onto the floor at a tremendous rate, it was fine. :whew:
