Bukkake 2.0 (Work/Planning In Progress)

If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

Bukkake 2.0 (Work/Planning In Progress)

Post by Dr. kitteny berk »

Given Bukkake is getting Fairly old and struggling a little (especially in the HDD Dept.), I'm thinking it's probably time for an upgrade.

Since I'm not exactly loaded, I'm gonna go on the hardware blag.

Any donations will not only win cookies, they'll win you respect and weirdy stuff helped onto the floor for you.

I don't expect people to go out and buy stuff especially for this, but any leftover hardware will be gladly accepted.

Needed:
Mobo (775, core2duo happy)
<CPU>400W)
Case (Tower, ATX, Something nice, not too breakable)

Got:
Ram (2gb x 8500 DDR2)

Stuff I CBA to fit in the first post

Basically, this (if enough people offer hardware) will allow Bukkake to host a lot more games at one time, and have pretty much anything we could possibly want at a push of a button (think gaming 2.0)

Would also allow me to host more of those files that can't really go on commercial hosting.

Edit: Obviously I'll accept donations of money too, But I'd rather do as much as possible from donated hardware, as that'll keep everyone's costs down.

Edit 2: This'll only be done if I can get enough sorted, don't send anything until we know what's what.

Perhaps with skis attached to help it slide easily down stairs?

Haven't got anything used worth having, car's up for it's MOT next week, will see how I'm fixed after that.

i have a 1.4Tb RAID5 array kicking about here.... that's probably overkill for a game server though.
My spare stuff isn't exactly cutting edge though.

Most Likely HDD wise I'd be thinking a 500gb jobbie for storage etc and a raptor or such for Windows and the more important games.

Worst case I can pull a raptor from the gonk and buy a fresh 500.

My old PSU is just sitting on the floor at the moment: http://www.qtec.info/products/product.htm?artnr=13980

But it's probably not much use as it's only 400W.

Got fuck all spare here mate bar an AGP 6600GT that you're welcome to if you want it. I had two cases but both were Bummed in the Gob when my old PSU went blue man group on me.

I have a mildly overheating PCI-E 6600GT you can have, and a generic 500W PSU. :)

Sorry, my machine works on a dead man's boots principle. Anything I have lying around is nackered, but I'll have a dig anyway in case I've forgotten something.

I don't imagine gfx cards would be of any use in a games server, more of an unnecessary power drain/heat generator than anything else.

That :above:

apart from with joint ops, but i'm not sure if rdesktop/vnc can use a graphics card to accelerate.

I got a few PCI nics, a very quiet 2pin fan, 2 small IDE HDs, an A64 3200 and a load of IDE optical drives, I doubt they'll be useful, but It's nice to know I kind of helped.

EDIT* I've also got a fuck load of CAT5E cables, just ask.

I have....

*looks in the cupboard*

two really old and slightly nackered atx cases (one with the front falling off)
A probably broken and very old motherboard
a PSU thats had the internal fan removed
about 10 freebie mice from a variety of drugs companies
misc cabling (some of which is so archaic I cant even identify what it came from any more. Phono to something that looks similar so svhs, but isnt? Scart to 3 mini-jacks? Fuck knows what they are)
two identical broken wireless cable routers.
