I'm struggling with this game at the moment. I seem to die a lot more than is normal for me, and mostly due to a few "unfair" glitches.
The first time I ran that first mission, it went without a hitch - but now, whenever I try to start over from the beginning (I missed something fairly obvious, and it wasn't to early to start over) I always end up as the last stalker alive, and get my ass handed to me.
After giving up on the do-over, I tried just running the normal missions. For a start, there's a bunch of mutants I'm supposed to clear out from a specific area, that simply... don't exist. And then as I'm trying out the story mission, I had the awful experience of seeing two bandits spawn out of thin air, right on top of me, and shoot me in the head. I didn't stand a chance!
I'm also having a fair bit of difficulty working out exactly what I'm supposed to be doing, but that's completely normal for me when it comes to open-ended games like this. If I can get over it in Oblivion, I'm sure I'll manage in Stalker, but my constant habit of being dead is seriously hampering my progress.

Just walk around that area and eventually you'll see some blind dogs, shoot them (or just chasing them off works I think) and repeat once or twice.Jediwannabe wrote:For a start, there's a bunch of mutants I'm supposed to clear out from a specific area, that simply... don't exist.
But this game is very frustrating, random objects will appear from nowhere, others will disappear, etc.
And I'm also very concerned I'm doing things wrong or missing stuff, for example I had to defend some camp from bandits then talk to some guy, I defended the place, talked to the guy, then a sneaky bugger popped up and killed the guy mid sentence, so I have no idea if he said anything important or what

i've been having a bit of trouble as well. Got to the second area and defended the hanger from the bandit raid and now i need to meet with Moles group. But the area i need to get through has a never ending amount of bandits that bum me into next week. Thought i'd try going back to first area, maybe find a better weapon or somethingJediwannabe wrote:I'm struggling with this game at the moment.

i think you get this info when you pick up PDA's from dead bodies. Just somewhere that someone has stashed some loot or ammo or somethingLee wrote:Does anyone know what the little stories behind the purple treasure markers are supposed to mean? Most of them dont make sense at all, things like "I threw my bag here, better go pick it up before the commander relocates us" what?

I haven't completely given up on it yet, but it's not really grabbed me yet either.
Vampire: Bloodlines was a bit like this though. It was buggy as hell, but remains one of the most fun games to play purely because of its atmosphere, story, and fantastic characters. The atmosphere in STALKER looks rather plain at the moment, and I'm sure I'd appreciate the characters more if I could actually speak Russian - but judging from the positive comments people have given, I guess it picks up eventually.

Extra bonuses for the game, not quite sure what they are yet though:
Get to your main install directory, run file called setup-bp.exe, choose your install language, enter these BONUS UNLOCKER CODES:
pseudodog: Unlock code #1
snork: Unlock code #2
Press NEXT button and you got the BONUS content unlocked.

Tis fun, buy I find standing over them and capping them with there own gun a lot more satisfying.spoodie wrote:I'm enjoying it but I think I put the difficulty too high for my skills. On veteran I had to reload about 20 times to get out of the second "level". I took much pleasure in stabbing the bandits I'd left wounded after that.
