Ok Chaps as it's graphics card question time at the moment:

Cheapy crap 8800 GTX, 1yr warranty for £330

I'd go with the GTS. It's cheaper, and the overclocks make it almost-but-not-quite as fast as a stock GTX. Plus eVGA has pretty good customer support in case your 8800 cupcake fails.

Hmm this raises another question, If I overclock card (beyond the factory overclock) and it breaks, if it's RMA'd can they tell it was borked due to overclocking?

Can you find an eVGA GTX for a similar price as that no name one? also try BFG.

As for your other question, I don't know how they'd be able to tell really. as far as I know the processor doesn't keep a record of what speeds it runs at.

does it need to be?

GTS = Fail
GTX = Win

What would you rather be? A GTS faaabulous or a GTX cupcake?

shut the fuck up chicken.

Right, I'd say go for the EVGA, if it's not up to the job for you, they have a step-up program, which allows you to swap your card for a nicer one and pay the difference within 3 months of buying your card.

As such, you could buy the 8800gts to tide you over, then spend ~£130 or so to upgrade to an 8800gtx (i'm not sure if they do it so you have no downtime, so look out for that)

I'd already ordered the EVGA one when I posted :lol: then spotted the bargain GTX and pondered the option.

Anyway I believe I will stick with my first choice, the trade-up scheme is always an option but I don't think I'll even need that.

fuck "need" right in the socket, the 8800gtx is very much a thing you should want.

EVGA seem pretty good to me support wise so far.

/2 week fight getting them to admit my card exists. :)

My plans to join the 8800cunt group might be taking a set-back, as the £80ish pounds I had saved has been found by the missus along with the words "excellent - that'll cover the van hire and paying for that sofa-bed we're picking up tmrw." :roll: Since we're splitting costs its fair enough really, I'll just have to earmark some other money for the 8800 instead.

*eyes up the joint account* :)

All my new PC bits have finally been ordered, and will be arriving at random times over the next week, oooh the exitement! :excited:

The hardest thing to decide on turned out to be the case and then I couldn't find one anywhere, eventually found a small website that will order one directly from Lian Li, I expect that'll be the last thing to arrive!

Image

I wanted a small case for the new gaming rig and plan to turn my current PC into a media center/server

Fuckers, just noticed now that overclockers have posted an estimated delivery date for the case, it was 'ETA unknown' yesterday and I emailed them to ask if they knew when it would be available, they had no idea.

pffft.

also beware if you've bought a heatpipey mobo.

often they don't work so well upside down.

Depends on the mobo, the ones with shorter heat-pipes can be fine.

Also, they'll often be ok but run a little hot even if not meant for running upside down.

All just depends on stuff, which mobo is it, btw?
