 Apparently there was a bug with the view distance that they've just fixed. These screenshots are just amazing.

Is there an easy way to hop in a plane and show this off, or are there bots shooting at you all the while? Additionally, is it actually possible to just muck about in planes as much as you want, without worrying about mission objectives?

I want to take it round and show it to my Dad - his rig would play it well enough, but he's always bitching that Flight Simulator X is really slow on it.

I'd like to demonstrate that the fault is with FSX being a poorly-optimised game, rather than the excellent machine I built him.

:)

Oddly enough, the US version has not been released yet. I could get the European version I guess.

I've actually installed a floorware version of this tonight (purely to see how it runs on my machine of course) and it's alright, barely touched it and can't patch to version 5 patch just yet. It needs optimising for my crappy old processor though. When she's up and running I'll have a fly about with someone.

I'll post some special frizzy piccies later. And yeah, you can make a 'mission' with just you in a Harrier and nothing else on the map. It's actually kinda fun flying around really really fast and then attempting to eject sideways into the control tower (one of th 10 tests for a good flight sim I read once). One thing that's annoying me is we can't seem to work out how to laser target an enemy tanks for the harrier's LGB's. We can get the SF dude in place and all, but the bombs still miss. Probably us just being spackers though.

Well my curiosity has now been piqued, and I left my dustpan and brush going this morning. I'm not holding my breath for prettiness on my machine just now though, especially with an underclocked card.

Hmmmm......

Those top screen shots look to me to be a cruel joke having played the demo on my machine on the lowest settings possible and still struggling.

However I shall sweep before buying as I do really want a game like this - I just don't want to have to buy a new computer to enjoy it.

Apparently the 'fog' bug crept in during the 1.05 patch and effects the nVidia 8800 series cards, though my 6800 seems to be getting it too. BIS replied to the complaints:
BIS have acted after user concerns of climate warming in the ArmaA™ gameworld. High tech PC gamers detected ozone build up from the many vehicles in the game not having catalitic converters. Industry in the 400sq KM area has signed up to Koyoto Treaty and agreed to cut carbon ejaculations by 50% in this latest patch.

This has lead to a massive reduction in SMOG and Ozone and even on a hot sunny day ARMA players can now see 10km. ejaculation's were so bad by patch 1.05, some Nvidia users could see evidence that air quality was down to a 2-3km visible range.

The only thing the two warring factions could agree on was to cut CO2 ejaculations.

*may not be entirely true, but they're gonna fix the issue in the next patch
