can't get image on tv.

i recently discovered a little cable in the box of my ATI, with which i can watch pc on my tv (yes, i'm a bit of a pc noob). i'd like to watch some movies with it, and altough it can playback dvd's perfectly,

movies don't seem to work, it just displays a black screen. is this because my tv set is too old (it's from around 1999) or am i missing some important codec thingie or similar?

If it is showing the DVD movies, it is not because your TV is too old (And this is most likely impossible, as the composite Tv-outputs date back to VCRs).

What software are using to show dvds/movies? If the software is different. Try different stuff. Look in your Ati manual?
