So there we have it in answer to my motorbike question. Bloody firemenIBGreenwood on IMDb wrote:According to Steven Jay Rubin ('Combat Films 1945-1970', pub. MacFarland and Co., 1981)), McQueen was authorised by John Sturges to purchase motorcycles and hire a stuntman. McQueen's chum Bud Ekins (who is the man who actually does the wire jump) bought two British Triumph motorcycles and camouflaged them to make them look German. The job took ten hours (and has not, apparently, fooled motorcycle buffs, see the 'goofs' page on this site).
'Happy Days' dates from 1974. For the same bike to be used, Ekins must have shipped it back to the US from Germany, refurbished it to original condition, then kept it in his repair shop in North Hollywood for 12 years. There's no indication on the IMDb site that Ekins was involved with Happy Days, and the whole thing seems very unlikely to me, though not, I suppose, impossible.
