WI-FI???

Post by Dolly Parton »

i am completely clueless on why and how to fix this problem. I live in a house with 2 other roommates. When either of their computers are on I lose connection. When they are off I have the best connection. I can always use cable connection and have no problem when they are on. Gonna run wire all the way to my room but would still love to fix this WI-FI issue. I have also taken my laptop to the local coffee shop and had no issues. Only at my house am I running into this problem. :? any suggestions in how to fix would be great.

Dolly

ps

this is pc/hardware even though it is eve related it in my opinion is in right spot ;)

Interference from other wifi routers, possibly? Try switching your router to a different channel, see if that helps.

A quick google suggests this as a possible fix, but other than that, I haven't a clue I'm afraid, not really played with the wifi stuff much

Limited bandwidth means it can get saturated, particularly if your housemates are downloading lots of stuff.

Try changing the config, such as channel and changing WEP/PSK security settings, but try it on your own first before telling your housemates the new config.

I had two wireless access points that were both designed to find a free band to work on, however they always ended up using the same band - the complete opposite of what they should have been doing.

I'd recommend fixing the channel/band manually as most give you that option.

You can see if any other access points are around your area by unplugging yours and doing a 'search for wireless networks'.
