Network monitoring thing

If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

Network monitoring thing

Post by Joose »

Ive noticed that every now and then, my cable modem goes crazy for a few minutes. Ive no idea why, as Im not doing anything when it happens. Its just started doing it again, so I turned off every program that I could think of that could be legitimately using the connection (firefox, skype, xfire etc), but it persisted. I checked the network usage tab in task manager, and its definately doing something fairly significant.

Short of going through taskmanager closing things willy-nilly untill it stops, I cant think of any way of tracing the problem. Anyone got a more reliable solution?

some kind of port scanner or packet sniffer would probably be your best bet

try sysinternals (if they're still up) or download.com
