Xfire new stuff

If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

Xfire new stuff

Post by FatherJack »

Has anyone else noticed that:

- You seem to appear yourself in the XFire list now, which you didn't previously?
- You have a bunch of new friends and you don't know who they are?

You haven't noticed, or you don't appear yourself?

You don't have new, unknown friends, or you know who they are?

I was wondering if some they are members or a gaming group we're mates with, or just some randoms who found the site/xfireadd.exe/etc.

I'm always on my list, but I think that's because I added myself as a friend so I could easily see what me status was. I've not noticed any new randoms, only the old ones that seem to want to befriend me because I'm on their friends-of-friends list. Incidentally, I just purged that and removed anyone I've never spoken to and hasn't got [5punk] in front of their name so that I don't get hassled with "r u a clan? Can I join?" any more.

could it be sone new users are coming on stream that have dragged a wider circle of friends into the radar? There's been a few sign-ups from elsewhere lately.

Just a thought, like.

The problem with removing anyone without a [5punk] infront of their name is that there are still lots of 5punkers who haven't bothered to add it to their nickname on xfire.

But no, no weirdness is happening, so it might be an idea to have a clear out, and then just rerun the xfireadd2.exe file to sort things out.

I always turn off friends of friends, and "perhaps" you are sorting by username or something, which then includes all the firends of friends in amongst the friends list? It's just an idea, as I can't check here at work.

There are a few people on my list I don't recognise, but that's probably because I just accept any friend requests without really looking at them.

Well that's what I generally do, but if I've no idea why they're on my friends list then they've really no right to be there. I know which 5punkers don't use the [5punk] prefix, such as Bomber, Webclam and Sheriff Fatman, and so I obviously haven't removed them. It's not a big deal, I just fancied a tidy.

i thihnk its pretty obvious whats happened.

Jack's xfire has turned on its "friends of friends" feature.

That would explain the lots of people he doesnt know, and if he is in the contact list of one of his friends then he could be added along with them?

If you turn it off FJack, does your name dissapear with the others?

Friends of Friends has always been on, it's only recently that I've appeared in the list. I used the xfireadd2.exe, so perhaps that added me as a friend, although it didn't do this when I ran it while back.

I actually prefer it this way anyway, as it shows me the point at which the map I am on (etc) is displayed to others. Also it gives me someone to chat with about Pokémon.
