A note to all prospective 0.0 ites

Post by bomberesque »

It might be helpfull to some guys to get a bit of perspective on what ratting at the POS is like, to know what you might be looking forward to. It certainly surprised me.

I spent my first day solo ratting at the POS today

I was in a BC with mediocre skills (BC3, Med gun 3 + support skills)

I *maybe* saw 12 pilots come through the system. only 2 were of questionable origin. There are several bad guys in the region, so I was perhaps a little lucky here.

However;

I made 18 Million ISK plus loot

Which roughly pays for 2 replacement BCs

in a day.

:excited:

Come up and share the :pie:

PS; 0.0 is not to be underestimated and I'm not suggesting coming before you're ready (which is a personal thing; I waited a long time, Lee, for example, was still in nappies when he took the plunge :likesitall: ) To give a little perspective, I have a total of about 6M SP, with the following SP in combat and support thingies;

6 Drones skills trained, for a total of 351,656 skillPoints.
8 Electronics skills trained, for a total of 318,827 skillPoints
11 Engineering skills trained, for a total of 556,676 skillPoints
12 Gunnery skills trained, for a total of 1,004,066 skillPoints
8 Mechanic skills trained, for a total of 483,518 skillPoints
4 Missile Launcher Operation skills trained, for a total of 12,744 skillPoints
6 Navigation skills trained, for a total of 370,912 skillPoints
6 Spaceship Command skills trained, for a total of 864,030 skillPoints.

I had no idea that was your first time. Otherwise I'd have paid more attention to your requests for info on the passers by. I've probably spent the most time down at the POS out of all of us, and I've got to know the locals pretty well, which helps.

But this is the reason why I have a personal fortune of over 250mill now - and FYI I give all my loot drops to the corp (apart from the implants) ;)

WOO BOMBER!

Its great isn't it!

:excited:

Im up to about 55m (I think) but I have the unfortunate habit of buying lots of shipS so this is about the highest my wallet has ever stood. (Although I have a shedload of crap I need to sell)

Although my ship collection now stands at 2 BS's, 2 Large Barges, Couple of Cruisers, lots of Indies, one Elite indie and a few shuttles so I think I can finally horse myself to save... (until I buy something BIG!) :boogie:

To strengthen Bomber's point about needing to be ready: I took my BC up to the POS a few months ago now, but it seems I've been missing a couple of important skills and was having a hard time tanking the rats. Until I sorted this out I could take on a handful of cruisers and maybe a small, lone BS. I lost one BC because I got caught in a roid field and couldn't warp out (product of being used to flying Frigates). However, now I've sorted myself out a bit more I can take on small BS spawns and can, as Bomber said, make millions in an afternoon.

Aside from the bounties (which is where I make most of my money - I donate most of my loot to the corp like Friz) there's the occasional rare True Sancha spawn there. I've had two personally, both cruisers, which are relatively easy to kill but drop loot worth many millions (the last one adds up to about 50mil if I can sell it).

Player rats are the biggest hazard once you can fly your BC properly, but these can be easily avoided. IF someone comes into local while ratting check them out. They're not so common as you'll always be distracted. If you don't like the look of them jump back to the POS until they've gone - losing the bounty on a 1mil rat isn't nearly as bad as losing a 15mil BC and the POS will make chaff of any nasties who come near the POS. Moving through 0.0 is by far the most dangerous, but if done properly needn't be so risky.

Well...I'm about to take the plunge to 0.0 I was wondering if i could get some specifics on what I need to take or can take to the POS.

Sounds like ammo tends to be the only concern?
EM/Th Resist + EM Damage for Sansha's only or are there other targets?
Storage space m3?
1x WCS
How/Where to setup a JumpClone?

I'd take more than one stab for a start, especially if you're bringing an expensive ship. You can refit it for combat when you get here at the ship maint array. Fill up on ammo (assuming you're not Amarr) because you can only really get it in Empire. You can get a jump clone at one of the POOs out here, but I'm not saying anything more specific about that on an unsecure forum. I'd suggest setting up a JC in Khank though if you've got the standings, because that'll be your base point in Empire. To do it you need the JC skill (I can't remember the name of it) and go to the medical options in the station and create a clone. Jump back to it from the remote location and you'll then have a JC where you jumped from and you'll be in the target location with no implants. You can do this once per day.
All the rats out there are Sanchas, so you seem sorted there.
Storage space - we keep all our junk in large secure cans out there. Bring one with you if you can, but there are spares so it isn't urgent. They're all password protected obviously so ask in game for the password.
