fun with molexes, and the mystery of the haunted AGP slot

If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

fun with molexes, and the mystery of the haunted AGP slot

Post by cashy »

ive just now discovered that one of the connections in a molex was loose. to be exact, it was one that had 2 wires spliced out of it, redun and a blackun going off to the cpu fan. the connection in question was the black spliced one, and it had fallen completely out of the molex BUT was still in contact with the wire leading onto the next molex, so the juice was still able to flow down said fan. albiet in a very odd manner.

my question to you all (read berk) is this: considering the molex feeding my graphics card is on the same link of molexes, and considering ive just blown a x850 and my old faithfull 9800 has recently been cutting out alot, making it fairly obvious theres a problem someplace, should i blame the molex or is it more likely that its a problem with my motherboard?
also note ive just recently replaced my PSU with a 500W beast from maplins, and its still getting worse.

its all very odd wouldnt you say?

it's possibly either.

make sure the graphics card is on it's own molex with nothing else on that run, no fans, no drives, nothing but the graphics card.

if it dies then, it's more likely a mobo issue.
