I too think it should just have a join and remove option for each game rather than anything too complicated. If you're unable or not willing to play the game online but still have it, then dont add yourself to the list for that game. It's more a tool for other people to see who they can play a game with rather than showing off your game collection I guess.

How to create the list of games? Is it going to be a set list of the main games catered for by 5punk (the ones with icons for example) or will we be able to add our own in there (Pippa Funnel's Riding School for example)?

I think a set list is the only way to go, otherwise people will fuck about adding stupid stuff, and it will be another area to moderate, which would be a pain in the ass.

Hvaing a list of all the games we have icons for (i.e. one's we tend to play a lot) would be good, however as somebody above mentioned, they want to know what games other people play, incase it's never been mentioned on 5punk etc...

Bit of a tough one really, I'm actually unsure of how to best do it, even though it is a cracking idea.

It would be the 5cheduler game list- that way when we add a new game to the list it'll be automatically added in here.

I was wondering on how to integrate it. How about:

- a "Who has this?" link when you're choosing a game to play in the 5cheduler.

- a [my games] button at the bottom of your posts.

That means you can search for what games a certain user has and also search for which users have a certain game.

Thoughts?

I'd suggest

- a mechanism to view the games list without actually starting to schedule a game
- a way to request games to be added to the list
- some sort of announcement when new games are added so people can say if they own them or not

Where would you link from?

A Poll would be enough for that, wouldn't it?

Good plan.

Um, maybe a 'games' link on the 5cheduler page, or even a new 'games' menu at the top - it just seems a bit tricky to find if you have to 'pretend' to schedule a game, but it would okay as long as we all knew that's where it was

Or just a normal thread dedicated to requests - if a couple of people have a valid game request it shouldn't need a massive vote.

how about a sticky where you simply post as and when you get a game, with big letters ontop saying "NO CONVERSATIONS FOR PENALTY OF SNPG'ISM".
that way you could compile a whacking great big list of who has what for what platform etc, as if you have a poll then you still wont know exactly who has what game

/edit god dam you jack, your too fast for my liking

It's a good point about keeping the thread clean - see, for example the XFire add games forum: it's mostly full of people repeating, saying pleeeeeease or "bump".

Just a one-liner for a new game, or maybe a short-ish list of games people actively have an interest in would make life a lot easier for the person/s editing the master list.

I realise this would make more work for the code-monkeys, but would it not be possible to sort of automate the adding of games, through some kind of voting system. As in, someone suggests a new game to be added, then if more than two other people vote for it, it auto-magically adds to the list. That way it wouldnt take as much mod time, but would limit the amount of random shite that gets added.

Does that make sense?

So it would only take two people to add I Love Horses as a game? I think that might require some mod attention :)
Nice idea though.

note, limit. Not stop entirely. Just means the mods wouldnt have *quite* as much to do. Plus, if you read what I said right, its three people: one to suggest then two more to go "yes, I also have this".

Just means that you wont have to wait for mods to add games, but you wont get games listed that only one or two people actually have. Without having the thing entirely manually driven (which could be a pain in the arse), you're never going to totally escape the possibility of "I Love Horses".

It's probably easier to have users add games with a voting system (I doubt the regular boarders will create too much crap once the initial excitement dies down). Compare the workload of deleting the odd 'I Love Horses' entry to having a mod manually enter every game someone wants. Of course everything depends more on how easily Stoat can implement the stuff we come up with, but the member-driven approach would be my choice.
