Forum Werewolf!

Post by Joose »

Anyone fancy a game of "play by forum" Werewolf?

In case you don't know, the basics go like this:

You have a number of players, and two of them are Werewolves. Every "day" people discuss who they think is the Werewolf. At the end of the day they pick a person and that person is "hanged" (taking them out of the game). At "night" there Werewolves choose someone to kill (also taking someone out of the game). The game ends when either all the Werewolves are dead or all the villagers are dead. There's a bunch of variant rules and extra roles, but I think if we were to do it we should keep it simple to start with.

People who went to Beard Bash may find this set-up mildly familiar :)

Apparently it works best with at least 6 players and needs one person adjudicating things, telling people who the werewolf is, announcing who has died etc. Anyone up for it?

yes! Ive seen this game played but never had a go myself, looks like rather good fun.

Actually how would things like the night time stuff work? in the game people just close their eyes and lots of pointing is done in silent, things like the peeping girl would be somewhat awkward on a forum no?

I'm thinking I wouldn't have a clue who the werewolves are. Oblivious.

Well, I guess some things could be done over PM. The werewolf could pm his victim and the relevant characters using a werewolf account or something.

We would need someone as a ref to randomly assign who is the werewolf, so I was thinking that the werewolves PM the ref their victim and the ref announces the death to the other players in the thread.

The peeping girl would be pretty much impossible on a forum, but I think for a first game we should probably just go with two werewolves and everyone else being a basic villager anyway. Theres a ton of other special characters we can introduce in subsequent games if we want to.

If we are playing with a ref, we would need another 4-5 people (depending on whether that is a yes from FJ or not :))

Anyone else interested? It probably wouldn't be a long game. We could do it in "real time" (have the ref announce deaths in the morning, players discuss in the day and werewolves make their decisions at night), which would mean with 6 players it would take a week at most. Or if that would be a bit restrictive (for people who cant post from work for example) we could do an in game day over two days and it would still only take between one and two weeks total.

I'd give it a go to make up the numbers but I can't post at work and I'm probably not going to be rapidly posting from home either.
