Old Game Awesomeraton Mods.

Post by Dr. kitteny berk »

Figured this might be worth a thread, I know vibrospaz has been fiddling with various stalker mods.

And this week I've mostly been downloading the HL2: Cinematic mod, which replaces most of the game with better textures and renderers, and makes your HL2 install 45gb in with the deal.

I seem to remember reading of some SS2 updates, that made it shiny, and Q3 ray tracing that I don't think has ever been released, but I'm sure there's stuff worth knowing about for every good game, ever.

Tell us of them. :)

Cripes, where do I start? Have random list. All readily googlable and I'm too lazy to do links.

Age of Pirates 2: Gentlemen of Fortune mod

Any Total War Series except Rome 2 - google Darthmod...profit.

Rome 2: Radeous mod

Mount My Blade - Floris Mod Pack is pretty much everything but there are other good ones out. Taleworlds forum is comprehensive.

Freespace 2 Open plus all the mods (Get FS2 GOG versionthen use this: http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.ph ... _Installer). Blue Planet is a great campaign. MP works fine but you can't save missions in progress, so don't die.

Silent Hunter IV (fuck V) - RFB, RSRDC, NMMO - these will mean something to you if you care to start googlage.

Falcon 4 BMS - still by far the definitive MP flightsim experience bar none (yes I'm looking at you DCS) in all it's DX9 glory. Amazingly easy on the eye for a 16 year old game. I still play this in MP at least twice a week.

System Shock 2 Rebirth + SHTUP (Texture Upgrade Project) - I've yet to find anyone willing to see this through to the end in coop. It actually requires effort compared to modern games.

X3 Series (ignore Afterbirth, just pretend it never happened) - very good list on Egosoft forums

Now you know what kind of games I enjoy I fully expect most 5punkers to completely ignore this list and move on to the BF1942 mods... :rectum:

I was surprised not to see at least 4 OTTD addons in there.

OTTD does not exist. Of what speakest thou, devil? Heathen spawn! Butter paste! Get thee behind me!

edit: actually, don't. Stay where I can see you.

The nVidia Control panel has per-program settings in the Manage 3D Settings pane (the red team probably have something similar) where you can horse quality settings onto older games - I played the Longest Journey and Syberia games with those on and it worked quite well in the main (with a few glitches) which was surprising as they all use pre-rendered graphics.

Deus Ex, System Shock, Arx Fatalis, Vampire the Masquerade, Morrowind and Oblivion all famously have major graphical revamps, PC Gamer run a series called Pixel Boost and the Widescreen Gaming Forum is an invaluable resource for upping resolutions where in-game options don't exist.

 there is a full selection of slut/tranny Alyxes in that mod, obviously it's best to use the defaults.

I would argue that the Vamp fan patch is pretty much a requirement in order to play the game. It doesn't just pretty up some textures and the like, it adds in a bunch of content that didnt make the original game (all finished off and polished up to an acceptable level) and it fixes a loooooot of bugs, some of them utterly game breaking. My first run through of the game, back before the fan patch existed, came to an abrupt end when I was put into a room with no openable doors.

Its up to patch 9.0 now. If you haven't played Bloodlines, or you have without the patch and found it too buggy to play, you should definitely check this out. Its one of the best computer RPGs I have ever played. Dont play Malkavian on your first run through. Do have a second run through as a Malkavian.

Got to the second (or is is third?) part about 3 times - that bit when you run into the chaps in bio suits. For some reason I always lose interest at that point and stop playing. Never figured out why.
