Things that look shiny in 2014

Post by Anery »

So, I'm fucking bored so here is a list of things I am looking forward to next year.

Game I Really want
Wildstar
Titanfall
The Division
Project Eternity (did back it on Kickstarter after all)
Elite: Dangerous (also backed on KS)
Star Citizen

Games I want
Phantasy Star Nova (need to buy a Vita first though)
Wlofenstein - The New Order
The Witcher 3
The Order: 1886
Mad Max
Destiny

What are you bummers looking forward to?

EDIT
I'm shoving this in because I know a few of us play board games - backed and looking forward to finally getting my mitts on Kingdom: Death

Gosh, I'm really not sure. Having just looked at the release schedule there's nothing that jumps out at me as "Oh god I can't wait till that comes out."

Project Eternity
That 2D obsidian isometric RPG, never played their other games (for shame) but obviously they've got a great record.

Star Citizen
I didn't back it, but I'm hopeful. If 5punkers give it a good review I might shell out for some spacey fun.

TESO
Sort of hoping that this is going to be good, but I have a horrible feeling it's just gonna be a dull, samey MMO with smatterings of TES lore

The Sims 4
For my sins. Unfortunately it looks like they're going away from the realistic look they had for The SIms 3, which is super disappointing.

Watch Dogs
Secretly hoping that it doesn't play like a bad console port when it comes to PC, especially as it's being developed for every console under the sun. And PC.

I've backed Planetary Anilhalation and Grim Dawn, so I guess those are games I'm looking forward to, but the hype I had when I initially backed is waning a little bit now. Grim Dawn's made by the guys from Iron Lore, the team that made Titan Quest that were then disbanded due to funding. They managed to acquire their game engine and are making this sort of Templars, demons and wild-west sorcery RPG. It looks pretty neat.

Is Kingdom: Death the one with the cock-monster in?

I'll get onto games later when I'm at a proper keyboard, but something I'm surprised I want is an Occulus Rift. A proper, release one that is. I'm more and more impressed by what I'm reading about it, and apparently they're only looking at about £180.

This looks intriguing, reminds me of GTA somehow. Do like the addition of a tablet assist thing - which seems to be a "thing to do" at the moment, both BF4 and The Division are including it.

Watchdogs is of interest, but I suspect it will be one of those games that could have done with less hype.

Star Citizen looks pretty good, im looking forward to that. The scope of the game seems to be going a bit mental with all the extra monies they are getting though, I hope they can pull it all together and not get over ambitious.

I too an looking forward to Sims 4. I know, I know. You can call it a digital dolls house all you like, I think its fun.

Is it just me or is that cock monster on the verge of a fractal wank?

Looking forward to:

Dragon Age: Inquisition
Dreamfall Chapters
Elite: Dangerous
Project Eternity
Satellite Reign
Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues
Star Citizen
Syberia III
Tropico 5
Watch Dogs
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

I was looking forward to The Elder Scrolls Online, but I read that they're locking off most of Tamriel to be held back for expansion packs which is a shame as exploring is my favourite thing in MMOs.

Bloody hell, it's taken me ages to work out what Kingdom Death actually is. Lots of pictures of JRPG boobs, not much information on the actual game. Turns out it's an RPG where you fight a monster as a team and use its bits to gear up for the next one. The things up there are some of the monsters. Looks like an interesting system, and I like the arena fight RPG aspect. Might need a lot of models for every eventuality. The back story is a bit weird - everyone in it has just woken up naked but for a sheet and a lantern, on a stone floor made of carved faces, in the darkness. Horrible monsters rampage through them, and the players are those few who survive and are trying to scrape an existence out of the things they can salvage. Explains the weird costumes and lack of clothing, not so much why the women choose to use what little cloth they have on anywhere but their tits and arse. Still, I wouldn't mind playing a Dung Beetle Knight.

Pretty much guaranteed we won't see Squadron 42 in 2014, let alone Star Citizen. I have no doubt it'll get delayed.

Elite: Dangerous has me quietly excited.
Satellite Reign, if they can pull it off
Sims is one of those games I know I'd play intensely for a week and never touch again, so I can't justify the ridinkulous amount of DLC it demands (may have to sweep though)
ArmA3 mods such as ACE3, ACRE2 and JSRS2 (do mods count?)

I am debating buying a vita now, this and the number of indies that will be available is starting to sway me away from my trusty 3DS.

Thought I'd mentioned it here (was probably another thread), but I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on a commercial release of the Oculus Rift.

Perhaps this could be the first major innovation in gaming for a long time.

I've had mine for a while now. I tend to go through phases with it. I'll get a game and play it all the time, until I complete that game, and then it just sits in the corner until I get something else.

It's mainly old school things though. For example the last game I played on it was Final Fantasy 7. But the HD versions of old games are great, I have the MGS HD collection on it. It just needs decent, new games that are designed for it.

*Casts Thread Resurrect*

Just found a rather lovely list from PC Gamer, and found a few gems hidden within the 12 pages of genre categorised games.

The new Sniper Elite game set in Africa looks pretty shiny.
