Re: Arma 3
I'll buy it if it stays that broken. Frigame shenanigans would be jops-esque!
Re: Arma 3
The Physics in this are still hilariously broken.
Apparently we don't get our freebie keys for 2 weeks. But if you're inclined to save monies, the alpha is half price of the eventual full game, and it's surprisingly stable, despite the odd quirk

Re: Arma 3
Quick update for anyone who may be interested in developments in the ArmAverse. ArmA3 is living up to its promise in that it's very easy to port mods, addons and scripts over so we can expect a great deal of content very quickly - in fact someone has already made a working merge mod called All-In-ArmA that enables you to use all content from ArmA 1 & 2 and Take On Helicopters in ArmA 3. There's also some proper mods being created already, such as this British Rifle.
Meanwhile, in that other place that I hang out, we've been pioneering a dynamic sandbox mod rather incongruously called Multi Session Operations. This saves all our multiplayer game data to an SQL db, which is rather nifty as we can now have persistent coop campaigns running over several sessions. We can also publish the data on a website to track our campaign progress (very WIP a the moment, so forgive the godawful formatting). The vision is to have this working both ways so we can inject data into the game in near real time - we've proved the concept works in ArmA2 but are not developing it any further at this stage. MSO is getting a complete overhaul for ArmA3 and some funky new features. My personal aim is to have a fully functional, persistent battlefield (war) across multiple maps with minimal input required from a mission maker. Rather better than the traditional old school single missions where you're just a couple of grunts working alone against the 3rd shock army.
Otherwise ArmA3 still has it's hilarious Alpha issues, so BIS certainly has their work cut out getting it ready for release.

Dunno if anyone plays this but it's settled down quite a lot now and has some useful mods out there which would suit small group play. In terms of balancing things and making it more fun for 5punky shenanigans, I would highly recommend the following.
ASR_AI - AI tweaker which makes them less stupidly ninja snipers with an AK. http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=24080
Name Tags - so you know who you're looking at. http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=21190
Virtual Ammo Box - it's a script rather than a mod, but it provides easy access to all the toys. http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=19134
ALIVE, cos I'm a dev on the team and it's therefore obviously awesome (mainly it means making large dynamic missions is piss easy) http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=23684
And finally and probably most importantly for 5punkiness, MCC Sandbox is a brilliant tool for automatically creating and editing mini missions on the fly. http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=19580

Re: Arma 3
Good to know it's settled down a bit, I'll look at installing this weekend then.
Re: Arma 3
I had no idea you were on the ALIVE team Friz. Fucking good work! I'm trying to learn how to make it work good for missioney fun time but I don't really have the time to commit to it at the moment. As far as Multi Sesison Operations goes me and a couple of others are on this at least once a week for an hour or so. There's no srsbsns involved - we are known as Special Squad. My initiation was completed when in one night Ifriznit wrote:/cast resurrect

1. Disembarked from a chopper, forgot I'd switched fire mode and tossed a grenade at my comrades feet.
2. When surprised by a comrade who shot me at close range I unloaded a magazine into him.
3. Went to rescue second comrade, pinned down on a balcony with first aid and ended up healing myself then immediately falling from the balcony and dying.
4. Watched the comrade I'd murdered earlier crash a helicopter in front of the building I was holed up in. He was thrown clear of the crash so I dashed out to help him and was met with a 5 man firing squad.
5. Stepped out of a chopper and was about to call it a night. Went to deposit my gear in the back of the chopper for the others and walked head first into the tail rotor.
That was when I knew I was a part of special squad.
