Stumbled across this earlier, seems interesting and the things they're promising don't seem too outlandish.
The actual gameplay mechanics and such don't seem any different from the other first person RPG's out there, but I'm very intrigued by the "realistic" aspect they're trying to achieve. I've always wanted to play a game where I can walk around in a fairly accurate medieval Europe, rather than the many ''based on medieval things'' most games go for. But I'm not entirely sure I want to give my money to their kickstarter just yet, their goal seems awfully low for such an expansive game...
Oh, and you can be a bard.

I saw this and was mildly interested. If executed well this could be a really good thing.
This is a very good point I hadn't noticed. Considering this for example:Mr. Johnson wrote:their goal seems awfully low for such an expansive game...
Even if half that was marketing costs that'd still be many millions.http://www.statisticbrain.com/skyrim-the-elder-scrolls-v-statistics/ wrote:Skryim development and marketing budget - $85 Million

In the video the guy does mention some of their money comes from a "private investor", but that sounds a little dodgy. On the other hand, their studio seems to know what they're doing tech-wise and since it's build on an existing engine they might be able to cut the costs considerably.

Since they set their goal so low it was pretty much guaranteed that their kickstarter got funded, but even then there's no guarantee it'll be published. Also, strong and capable? Do they have a fight to determine if he's worthy or something?Mr. Beard wrote:Our investor is strong and capable of funding the complete development of our project. But he does not follow the game industry very closely, and needs proof that publishers and marketers are wrong about our game - that you are indeed interested in a mature, medieval RPG that emphasizes freedom and authenticity. And so we stand, as a studio, at a crossroads. Either those naysayers are right, and there truly is no desire for the game we are making, or we are right. Either way, we think Kickstarter is a great way to find out.

Sounds like the investor has the cash, but knows shit all about games. They've done the kickstarter to prove to the investor that there's a market, hopefully by proving that, a great game could be created, although it has to be said, perhaps not a massively commercially successful one.Mr. Johnson wrote:In the video the guy does mention some of their money comes from a "private investor", but that sounds a little dodgy. I'd chuck it a quid or three to hope it gets made, then buy it at cost if it materialises.
