I have a feeling some here are going to have a crisis.

Mentioning Battle Isle and Advance Wars in the opening paragraph has grabbed my interest.

I enjoyed Advance Wars, but it was square tiles, not hexagons - I've never really got on with hexagons as the whole front attack/back attack/flanking thing isn't so straightforward as well as the movement being more complex.

It's interesting that while hexagons appear to offer more opportunity for movement, if you take into account diagonal movement you actually get more out of squares. I was under this misconception for a long time.

Depends on the game, but yes, squares have directions, hexs (obviously) have just the six.

However, that artifical movement limit can make for more interesting conflicts as it makes running away harder.

Interview on RPS. Sounds good. I played Advance Wars a ton and I haven't been into RTS since Westwood's C&Cs, although just single player in both. I really want a multiplayer game outside of MMOs I can get into. I'm bummed by no base building though - I like base building - but hopefully that doesn't include defense structures.

Problem with base building is that economy takes precedent over tactics. Hence the tank/zerg rush tactic being so effective.

Backed. I just love having surprise Kickstarter games come out and not cost me anything in the distant future, and I'm a sucker for a turn based strat (not actually strategic, it's tactical).

6 days to go and it's busted its target. Next stretch goal is a free iPad/Android version for backers, which is quite cool. I could have it on my phone.
