I would if I understood how signals worked properly. None of the tutorials online are easy enough to comprehend :dohtwo:

I'm sure there are more than a few posts on here about them, but I'm not sure I want to search for them as I always end up spending far more time that I should "just quickly trying something out".

It's all about the path signals. Here's a pic of pretty much everything you need to know. 90% of them are path signals, with the odd one-way path sig to make sure things go the right way round the track. The weird looking things at the bottom labelled "prios" you don't need to worry about much, but is a neat way of prioritising the main line over a branch line using a combo signal. It's the only time I ever use anything that's not a path signal.

And here's a completed, prioritised branch line to main line junction so you can see what it looks like:

I don't know, but Netborough Woods is sorely lacking.

Just use the simple path signal for almost everything. They stop a train going into a section where there is already another train.

Split the sections so that there's somewhere for each of your trains to be at all times, hopefully doing something useful like loading and unloading, but save money on long runs by having the trains share them.

I always build routes as one way circuits, so it's a big clockwise circle. A 'track segment' is an area between two path signals. A train approaching a Path Signal will look ahead to the next segment of track and check it's clear. If so, it reserves that whole segment and nothing else will enter until the train has cleared the segment. A train can go backwards through a regular path signal but won't go backwards through a one-way signal - think of a one-way path sig as a no entry signal.

Every platform exit needs a path signal so the trains leaving reserve the track ahead before they merge into the mainline.
The junction where your mainline splits into multiple platforms needs a one-way path to prevent trains going back the wrong way.
All junctions need a path signal on each track just before so the trains stop at a safe point before the merge if the line ahead is reserved.
And your whole line needs path signals along it - best practice is to space them at half the distance of your trains (so every 3 blocks if you have trains that are 6 blocks long)

With those rules in mind, you can see how those Terminus and RoRo stations work with very little signalling needed.

Oooh. I love how the railways look like they're being extruded from a pair of balls.
