Only if you shoot at them. I believe you can target a goat or even section of wall and just lob away. Once I've established this fortress properly I'll do some experiments.

Presumably they'll only fire at enemies. I've had a couple of catapults set up and they never got more than one shot off between them anyway before they were overran. You'd have to hold them off with some kind of fortifications and pagger them.

Nobody can climb over fortifications, they're like walls except they give a penalty to firing past them that increases with distance from it. Catapults could fire over it I assume, but I don't know for sure. I just stuck mine on a terrace and was planning to have a removable bridge spanning across to it, but I got eated before I got chance.

When a game has an O'Reilly book about it then it's truly arrived.

Someone on Giant Bomb is reading and playing. I think he's making a meal of it.

Problem is the game will change and the book will become obsolete. Still looks good though.

Cripes, this thread started in April....2010.

I actually played DF again the other day - still quite fun actually.

You can probably say the same for most tech books. But in this case you're probably better off reading wikis or other online guides.
